Should the decision of Roe vs. Wade be reinstated that provides federal protection of a woman’s right to choose for themselves, or should that 1973 ruling remain reversed as agreed upon by the new SCOTUS decision to protect the lives of the unborn?

SCOTUS decision

First:

You are to construct a research speech reflecting the topic above. (Note: as a requirement, this time the speech will be rigidly timed…so edit well and keep your ideas and organization tight!).

Answer this: “Should the decision of Roe vs. Wade be reinstated that provides federal protection of a woman’s right to choose for themselves, or should that 1973 ruling remain reversed as agreed upon by the new SCOTUS decision to protect the lives of the unborn? It certainly was a major voting issue in the last election. Simply put, are you Pro-Choice or Pro-Life and why? I AM PRO-LIFE.

Choose a side, know your opinion, then create, research, prepare and present a speech that supports it. As this is a research speech, your opinion must be corroborated and supported with external and documented information. In your speech, you must include ideology and data from outside sources. Support your opinion by corroborating with sound research, ethics, philosophy, and personal conviction. But also, in love.

For the speech, imagine the audience consists of the two opposing groups who believe passionately onto their beliefs in regard to this issue.

Second:

Prepare and present a speech with the objective being peaceful resolution of the issue among the two sides utilizing specifically the ideology and constructs of both your own philosophy and your research. Include quotes as often as needed.

Note: Given the scope of the assignment, there will be elements of the speech that suggest the tenants discussed in a persuasion speech. So, one method to consider in crafting the speech is the utilization of “Rogerian Rhetoric.”

“Rogerian argument is a negotiating strategy in which common goals are identified and opposing views are described as objectively as possible in an effort to establish common ground and reach agreement…(it) attempts to do three things: (1) to convey to the listener that they are understood, (2) to delineate the area within which the speaker believes the listener’s position to be valid, and (3) to induce the listener to believe that they and the speaker share similar moral qualities (such as honesty, integrity, and good will) and aspirations (such as the desire to discover a mutually acceptable solution).” – paraphrased from Richard Norquist

Third:

You are also to turn in a typed reference page, with at least 7 references. The reference page must follow M.L.A. format as discussed and reviewed in class. Remember, these references can come from published works, personal interviews and the internet. Make sure they are primary sources for academic appropriateness, and always give the proper individual credit for their ideas. You must also create an outline to assure you create a great speech.

Choose a drug. Describe the original source for its active ingredient, the original world region from where it came, and how it was originally used in this cultural context.

Literature Survey

Concept of life-long learning and socio-economic development in context of rural areas

From the viewpoint of Yang, Huang and Liu (2020) lifelong learning supports an individual to enhance from within and grows bit by bit. It refers to the self-initiated form of learning for individual growth of a person. Also, life-long learners identify the value and joy of personal growth so that they never settle for what they experience and systematically seek to enhance and discover upon their current knowledge (Mukherjee, 2019).

Whereas, Wang  (2022) socio-economic development is taken as the process of socio-economic development in a community. It deals with the transformation of social institutions in a way that enhances the capacity of the society to meet its objectives. It also relates with the progressive attitudes and behaviours by the local people, adoption of more advanced technology and effective process (Huang and et.al., 2021).

Impact of life-long learning on the socio-economic development of rural areas

From the viewpoint of Sajjad (2019) it is essential to understand the need for good quality learning in rural areas because it supports in keeping rural areas populated. Life-long learning can create income and employment opportunities in rural areas (Dede and Richards, 2020). It has been studied that the availability of skilled labour, local markets and transportation infrastructure are main factors in choosing a society for an industrial placement.

While, Llego (2022) perceives that  life-long learning helps in building strong and vibrant communities as education can support in starting new businesses, develop employment and contribute to the overall economy of the society. It also aids in developing productive citizens in rural areas who are engaged in the society and are committed to creating a better place to live (Boyadjieva and Orr, 2022).

Research Methodology

Research Philosophy

Interpretivism philosophy will be used in the report. It assists researcher to collect data with small sample size and more useful for qualitative study.

Research Approach

Inductive approach supports in qualitative research where the investigator can make theories and concepts which are new (Dion and et.al., 2020). It deals with a certain set of observations and shift to the ordinary set of proportions in context of experiences.

Research strategy

The investigator will use systematic literature review as a strategy to conduct qualitative type of study systematically.

Choice of methods

Through mono method, the investigator will use qualitative method of study because it supports in depth data.

Data collection and analysis

Secondary sources like journals, articles, books, government sites etc. will be exploited to collect secondary data (Leedy and Ormrod, 2019). It saves time and cost and easily available to meet the objectives. Thematic analysis tool will be used to analyse the gathered data.

Write a informed letters to corporate or elected officials, local communities, newspapers, employers, family, friends, or an open letter outlining their views on a social issue and calling for specific action.

Letter writing for Social Change

Assignment Content

Assignment description: Students write informed letters to corporate or elected officials, local communities, newspapers, employers, family, friends, or an open letter outlining their views on a social issue and calling for specific action.

Goal: To make a commitment to inclusivity that is anti-racist and anti-oppressive on how to promote spaces of inclusivity that is free of racism and xenophobia.

Learning Objectives
To explore and appreciate letter writing as effective advocacy tool
To provide an opportunity to critically analyze a specific issue in the course that is of interest to you.
To apply and practice research skills (identifying bias, credibility, reliability)
To practice writing as medium for effective and persuasive communication
To be able to articulate the complexity of an issue concisely.

Not sure how to begin? Use these steps to help you on your way:

Step 1: Choose a current issue or problem that you are seeing in your daily lives. Some ideas to help you brainstorm:
Workplace discrimination based on race, ethnicity, and/or culture
Unequal, racist, xenophobic government policies
Racial, ethnic bias in a mass media (newspapers, tv series)
Racial, cultural, ethnic bias in educational settings, communities
Open letter to yourself on how you can do better

Step 2: Do some research on this topic. You must have the following (minimum requirements):
At least one reading or film that is in this course(see “Learning Materials” for a full list of resources)
At least two external scholarly articles. Examples of such scholarly articles can look at:
Consequences of a particular issue
How other communities have dealt with the issue
Policies or rules that the issue has violated

*It’s very important that you look for scholarly sources. There are some platforms that offer a kind of hybrid between scholarly and non-scholarly works (e.g. The Conversation, Medium)—these are okay to use, but be mindful that it might not be complete (these tend to be shorter in length).

*You can start by looking at other websites if you’re really lost for how to start researching. Some examples are: Wikipedia, Encyclopedias, etc. But it’s important to remember that these are secondary sources (they provide information, but not first-hand experience). In addition, websites like Wikipedia are often difficult to trace who made the contribution (lack of publication dates, etc.). You should be searching for scholarly articles that make an original contribution.

If you are addressing a particular issue where has been published somewhere, make sure you include a bibliographic reference (you need proof that this issue exists). If it is something you’ve observed, make sure to provide as much a description as possible.

Step 3: Start outlining your final letter.

This requires you to read through all your research and come up with a compelling and persuasive letter for your recipient. Things to consider:
Identify who is receiving your letter
What are you persuading them to do? What is the purpose of your letter? (think of this as your “thesis” statement)
How does your research support what you’re asking in your letter? (e.g. “Evidence from XYZ suggests that…”)
Language and format of your letter. You should be writing this in your own words.
Here’s some tips from Amnesty: Letter-writing Tips (amnesty.ca)

Step 4: Finalizing your letter.
Make sure you submit the following:
The letter itself—this should approx. 800-1000 words. It’s longer than usual because there’s research that you must incorporate into your letter. Make sure to proofread your work to correct any spelling/grammar errors and to ensure a narrative flow.
References page in APA format. This lists all the sources you used to write your letter. Include your scholarly research, course reading/media, and any additional works that you cite in your letter.
Make sure that you write the letter in APA format. That means to reference ideas and contributions made by others.
The scholarly research that you completed in PDFs or links.

What theory is being applied today? Why? Have assumptions or ways of understanding the social problem changed? How does contemporary theory currently impact intervention decisions today?

Youth and Crime

1) Choose a social issue of interest and describe why you believe it is a social issue and/or relevant for yourself as an upcoming social worker.

As an example, it could be a social issue related to mental health supports for a specific population/mental illness (access to perinatal mental health supports or around the topic of Schizophrenia or substance abuse impacting a specific population etc)

2) Analyze historical theoretical perspectives or ways of looking at the problem (potential societal assumptions) and how they may have impacted intervention decisions and outcomes at that time.

For example, was the issue viewed as an individual problem or a social problem?
What theory may have been applied based off these assumptions that negatively impacted interventions used at the time (a theory that focused on the individual or society etc)
How they impacted intervention decisions at that time

What interventions were chosen because of those assumptions (for example trying to scare youth out of drug use by meeting police or other inmates etc)
Were those interventions effective in anyway?
Did they do no harm? Any ethical dilemmas that arise in these approaches)

3) Analyze contemporary theoretical perspective(s) or ways of looking at the problem (potential societal assumptions) and how this may currently impact intervention decisions and outcomes today.

For example, is the issue viewed as an individual problem or a social problem?
What theory is being applied today? Why?
Have assumptions or ways of understanding the social problem changed?
How does contemporary theory currently impact intervention decisions today?

What interventions are used today?
Are these interventions effective in any way?
Do any ethical dilemmas arise today?

4) Analyze and compare historical and contemporary assumptions and/or theories, interventions and outcomes

What was the difference between historical and contemporary interventions related to the chosen social problem?
Why do you think these differences in intervention exited? (assumptions about the problem? Theory utilized? Etc)
What does this information tell you about the foundations of social work practice and contemporary practice? Are there still many similarities or differences? Why or why not?

Critically reflect on learning surrounding your comparison of historical and contemporary discourse, theory and practice and include:

your sense of the significance of this content for your education, and its relevance for your career as a social worker.
This reflection should integrate the associated reading, your viewpoint, and class content/discussion (if relevant).

5) In the final section, highlight any key questions and/or your learning goals/needs.

Identify relevant and critically reflective questions that relate to the overall paper and enhance potential future understanding of the problem/problem approaches (Did you notice gaps in research for future consideration? Do you have relevant questions about contemporary approaches and potential ethical dilemmas)
Identify 1 or 2 learning goals that are clearly connected to the overall content of your paper and critical learning reflection (learning goals could be related to desired policy changes, ways of looking at a social problem or practice approaches for yourself as a future social worker)
