Using Dennis Gilbert and Joseph Kahl’s model of social class, identify the different social classes and describe the features of each. Explain at least three advantages and three disadvantages of each social class position. What are some of the specific factors that correlate with social-class membership? Try to develop unique responses from your peers.
Respond to the discussion question after researching the topic. Share with your classmates what you learned by writing a post about the topic. The post should be a minimum of 150 words. Your original discussion post must include two sources cited in APA Style.
After you post your initial message, respond to the posts of at least two other students. Response posts should further the discussion by adding educational concepts and asking clarifying questions in a minimum of 75 words.
Purpose:
Advertisements reflect our cultural ideals and attitudes. As such, they provide a venue through which to analyze our assumptions about who is purchasing what and why. In this assignment, we are focusing particularly on food ads and how aspects of the food ad (including such things as the setting, the language, and the people) speak the advertisement’s target audience as well as the company’s assumptions about that audience.

Upon successful completion of this assignment, you will be able to:
Demonstrate an awareness of the different techniques used to appeal to and sell to different audiences
Apply your knowledge of the relationships between food and identity to an analysis of food advertisements
Compare and contrast multiple ads to understand broader strategies of food marketing
Task:
In this assignment, you need to analyze four advertisements for food items. There are two ways you can approach this assignment.
Either you can choose to choose four ads for the same product (e.g. four ads for McDonald’s chicken nuggets)
Or, you can select four ads for different products but contained within the same advertising period (e.g. four ads within the same magazine issue or newspaper, four commercials aired during the same TV episode, four ads during the same podcast episode, four billboards within the same five-mile stretch of highway, etc.)
You cannot mix and match from these strategies. You must select one approach. The ads need to be relatively current meaning that they need to be on the market currently or within the past two years.
For each advertisement, you need to describe the ad and analyze its context, the product it is selling, the content, the target audience, the language used, and the advertising strategies. You will then need to present a comparison of the ads. In your analysis and/or comparison, you need to tie your analysis back to at least three course sources (required lectures, readings, and/or videos). Be sure that any other claims made are also backed by sources.

Describe the course and duration of grief experienced by the bereaved (1 or 2 individuals) in the film/book you select by using a “Model of Grief” from your text. You will describe the behaviors, expressions, and/or actions resulting from grief of a lost loved one using a model as the structure of your answer. Include a definition or description of each step/stage/part of the model. This is NOT a movie review, but an examination of the grief process as portrayed in the arts instead of a personal experience. You will need to review the pertinent chapter. Cite the model and page number from the textbook at the end of your discussion. Your paper should contain in-text citations and a reference list in APA format. If you are not sure if you are citing APA format correctly, check with the writing center and ask them to help.
There is no length requirement for DB4, so long as it is complete. Strive to be concise and articulate. The more that you can show that you understand and can apply the above-listed theories to the movie/book, the higher the grade.
This is your opportunity to “show off” how much academic learning you have done in the semester based on the theories presented in the book. Word your discussion as if you were an “expert” in the field. Respond to another student’s posts with at least 5 sentences in a scholarly conversation. Include in this conversation your interpretation of the model in the case described. If your interpretation is different or similar please state why you agree or why you don’t agree. This will help you as an educated person, in engaging in dialogue on THEORY from a philosophical basis rather than the movie as a review.
