Questions to consider

The role play you have watched is based on experiences and learning of one kaimahi whanau. All kaimahi whanau will practice aspects of this role play in their own way, based on their own experiences and learnings. As a result there are many questions to consider.

Here are some:

  1. What has the kaimahi whanau considered when choosing to visit the grandmother first rather than Mere’s father?
  2. What has the kaimahi whanau considered in choosing not to suggest karakia at the start of this home visit?
  3. The kaimahi whanau in this roleplay is known by the whanau and has knowledge of the whanau’s interests and history. If you as the kaimahi whanau, were not familiar with the whanau or they with you, what could you talk about with the kuia before talking about the “issue” and what you’ve come for?
  4. How do you feel about the kaimahi whanau allowing the whanau to get back to the kaimahi whanau next week ? Should the kaimahi whanau have sought a more specific contact arrangement? If so, why?
  5. What strength based principles are put into practice in this roleplay?

If you were going to do research on this topic, what would your goal be: causal explanation, interpretive understanding, or critical sociology? Why this goal and not the others? (There is no “right” goal—that is your choice. But there are more and less correct and detailed ways of explaining why you chose it—take some care with that part.)
How would your goal impact your theoretical perspective, research question, and research method?
–State which perspective (functionalism, conflict theory, interactionism) you would use and why.
–Write a research question that reflects your topic, goal, and theory.
–Explain which method you would use to collect data, and why.

Round out your post with some details on how you would actually carry out your research and what you might expect your results and conclusions to look like.
You must discuss sociological goals and theories in your post—and other concepts if you wish. Show me that you know what you are talking about!

What are you calling on the workers of the world to do? What do you hope to accomplish? Why is your cause different from the one that drove Marx and Engels? Use Marxian methods to construct your case, be a dialectic materialist and use economic determinism as a vehicle.

If you choose to use another methodology to construct your manifesto, define what that is and defend your choice. Your manifesto should be no longer than four, but no shorter than two single spaced pages. Your font should be no larger than 12 points.

Your manifesto will be evaluated based on the content of your argument. The instructor will evaluate how you defined your terms and how you used Marxian deterministic models or some other model of your choice to construct your manifesto.
