Briefly summarize and discuss at least five important studies in the field of your research. How is your research related to the previous studies? State your predictions about the signs of estimated coefficients and explain why.

Write a detailed plan to conduct an empirical analysis in the area of banking or finance. The term paper should include the following sections: 1.Introduction 2.Literature review 3.Hypothesis development 4.Methodology 5.Data 6.Conclusion In each section, the following issues should be discussed:
2 / 2

Introduction: What is the research topic (be specific, and innovative if possible)? Examples: CEO compensation and dividend policy, evidence from the US. Effect of corporate tax cuts on bank lending.  Example: the importance of the topic, literature gap, your interest and etc. The impact of this topic. Example: potential contribution and implications.

Literature: Briefly summarize and discuss at least five important studies in the field of your research. How is your research related to the previous studies?

Hypotheses: Based on theory and/or existing literature, develop at least two hypotheses. State your predictions about the signs of estimated coefficients and explain why.

Methodology: Describe the research method(s). Example: OLS regression, event study, IV regression, etc. Write down the regression models for testing each hypothesis. What are the advantages or disadvantages of this method? Are there alternatives? If there are potential problems with this method (as suggested in previously studies or according to your knowledge), how do you plan to solve them?

Data: Based on the regression models specified in the previous section, which variables do you need to collect from where? Example: debt ratio can be collected from Data stream. Specify the details of the sample you intend to collect for the research. Example: From 1995 to 2012, 150 companies except for financial institutions in the US. Compare your sample to the samples used in existing literature. How long will it take to collect and clean the data? What are the challenges in data collection and cleaning? Are there any data samples that could be unique (e.g., data from UK colonies in the 18th century, data from US banks around the civil war, data from the early Prussian imperial era)?

Conclusion: Potential contribution of this research. Possible difficulties/limitations in this research. Are there further studies you wish to conduct in the future?

Assign your numbers for mean μ and standard deviation σ. Then select a number “A” below mean μ, and a number “B” above mean μ. Use Appendix Table for the Normal Distribution to find probability that x is between A and B: P (A < x < B).

As a part of preparation for this week test, let’s practice with another case related to the Normal distribution.
Assign your numbers for mean μ and standard deviation σ.
Then select a number “A” below mean μ, and a number “B” above mean μ.
Use Appendix Table for the Normal Distribution to find probability
that x is between A and B: P (A < x < B).

Here are steps to follow: convert A to z score (let’s call it za),
convert B to z score (let’s call it zb).;
From Appendix table find area under curve to the left of za and to the left of zb.
That will give you P (z < za) and P (z < zb).
If za or zb are not in the table, change your A or B.
Use formula: P (A < x < B) = P (za < z < zb) = P (z < zb) – P (z < za)

Do not just assign numbers, make an example from real situation
where this technique can be applied. For instance see Chapter 6 section 6.3 example 6.11 on page 270 of eText: Intelligence Quotients example. Create your own scenario and values.

Develop a draft of the current state assessment for the Enterprise Data Management Architecture and Implementation. Evaluate the architecture currently employed by Third Star Financial Services, evaluate the impact on operations of data management, and evaluate Third Star’s maturity level.

Overview: For this milestone, you will develop a draft of the current state assessment for the Enterprise Data Management Architecture and Implementation
Plan. In this draft, you will evaluate the architecture currently employed by Third Star Financial Services, evaluate the impact on operations of data management,
and evaluate Third Star’s maturity level.
Prompt: Develop a draft assessment of the current state of Third Star Financial.
Specifically, the following critical elements must be addressed:
I. Summarize the current architecture employed by Third Star.
II. Provide an evaluation of the current tools and data management components in comparison to the DAMA-DMBOK.
a) What components of standard enterprise data management does Third Star have currently that are not performing at a level to support the
needs of the company?
b) What components of standard enterprise data management does Third Star not have? Be sure to reference the DAMA-DMBOK in your evaluation
and consideration.
III. How does the current state of enterprise data management affect the operations of Third Star Financial Services?
a) Provide well-supported explanations of the impact on operations.
b) Account for current, future, and past operational limitations the state of enterprise management has on the company.

Design a short telephone survey to find out the demographic characteristics of people in the catchment of a local community health service, and distinguish between those who actually use the service and those who do not.

You have been asked to design a short telephone survey to find out the demographic characteristics of people in the catchment of a local community health service, and distinguish between those who actually use the service and those who do not.
This assessment has two parts.
Part 1
How can you identify and contact these two groups? In your answer, discuss potential sources of population data that you can use to select participants, and the advantages and disadvantages of using these lists to identify people in the population. You also need to describe your sampling method, the process you will follow to recruit participants, and the limitations of recruiting participants with this approach. This section should include references presented in APA style.
Part 2
Formulate up to 10 questions that will elicit the demographic and usage information you need. You need to include a range of different question types to demonstrate your understanding.  Include both closed and open ended questions.  Include at least one question using a Likert scale.

Research two groups in American society. What did you learn by comparing and contrasting these two groups? What is our role as individuals to help obtain equal rights for others?

A Case Study in Equality of Opportunity
Learning Objective: The theme of equality of opportunity is examined through the specific lens of a case study.
For your assignment this week, research two groups in American society. Use research to provide support for your persuasive argument. For your research, you can use data from peer-reviewed sources, PEW, Gallup, Brookings, or a Federal Agency such as the U.S. Census Bureau. Devote at least 250 words to each group.

Identify a group in American society that has been, at any time since 1633, treated with less than an equal right to equality of opportunity. This group might identify by race, religion, gender, ethnicity, cultural or historical background, handicap, sexual preference, geographic location, education, job, immigration status, and so on. However, over time, this group has failed to overcome obstacles that have restricted their rights. Use research to find an example of this group’s lack of success.

Conclude your research with a 100-word discussion of why one group has been successful while the other group continues to struggle. What did you learn by comparing and contrasting these two groups? What is our role as individuals to help obtain equal rights for others?

Demonstrate that you understand basic concept of Normal Distribution. In two small paragraphs describe a couple of properties/rules of Normal distribution. Give one example of some practical case where we can use Normal distribution

Demonstrate that you understand basic concept of Normal Distribution.
In two small paragraphs describe a couple of properties/rules of Normal distribution.

Hint: look for KEY FACTS and DEFINITIONS in sections 6.1 and 6.2 of eText.

Give one example of some practical case where we can use Normal distribution (for instance, IQ scores follow a normal distribution of probabilities with the mean IQ of 100 and a standard deviation around the mean of about 15 IQ points.)

Part 2. Assign your numbers for mean μ and standard deviation σ.
Make sure μ is about four times bigger than σ.

Then select any number “a” below or above mean μ,
but not too far from μ , difference (a – μ) should be less than 3σ.
For example, μ = 80, σ = 20, a = 90 (or a = 75).

Find following two probabilities:

1) P(x < a)
2) P(x > a)

First, use formula: z = (a – μ)/σ to calculate z-value
and then use Appendix Table for Standard Normal Distribution.
You can find tables in Appendix to our eText or attached below.

Understand how the three key components of the interval—variability in the data, sample size, and confidence level—impact the width of the interval.. Explore the relationship between these components and understand the trade-off between reducing risk in our confidence of estimates and increasing precision.

As its name implies, confidence intervals provide a range of values, along with a level of confidence, to serve as an estimate of some unknown population value. Since it is rare to have access to the entire population, you must frequently rely on the confidence interval of the sample to make some inference about the population of interest. Before making accurate inferences to the population, we need to fully understand how the three key components of the interval—variability in the data, sample size, and confidence level—impact the width of the interval.

For this Discussion, you will explore the relationship between these components and understand the trade-off between reducing risk in our confidence of estimates and increasing precision.

To prepare for this Discussion:

  • Review and consider: Hispanic migration and earnings and focus on how different levels of confidence and sample size work together.
  • Review Magnusson’s web blog found in the Learning Resources to further your visualization and understanding of confidence intervals.
  • Use the Course Guide and Assignment Help found in this week’s Learning Resources to search for a quantitative article related to confidence intervals.
  • Using the SPSS software, General Social Survey dataset and choose a quantitative variable that interests you.

By Day 3

Using SPSS:

Take a random sample of 100.

Calculate the 95% confidence interval for the variable.

Calculate a 90% confidence interval.

Take another random sample of 400.

Calculate the 95% confidence interval for the variable.

Calculate a 90% confidence interval.

Post your results the mean of Age to verify the dataset you used, and an explanation of how different levels of confidence and sample size affect the width of the confidence interval. Next, consider the statement, “Confidence intervals are underutilized” and explain what the implications might be of using or not using confidence intervals. Provide examples based on the results of your data. Also, use your research to support your findings.

Suppose people’s willingness to pay follows normal distribution with mean μ and variance σ2 , derive likelihood function to estimate mean μ and variance σ2 based on the responses(yes or no) of n respondents.

Suppose a researcher wanted to estimate people’s willingness to pay for public construction project. He asked to i-th respondent that “Are you willing to pay Ai amount of tax for public construction project?”, and the respondent would only say yes or no. Suppose people’s willingness to pay follows normal distribution with mean μ and variance σ2 , derive likelihood function to estimate mean μ and variance σ2 based on the responses(yes or no) of n respondents. (Hint: A respondent will accept an offer if his/her willingness to pay is larger than the given amount of tax A)

Since there are no surveillance systems in place for diabetes, what measure of health or measure of disease frequency will you calculate and why?

You are a member of a healthcare team which has been sent to a province in a third world nation whose size and population is almost close to that of Burlington, Vermont. The team has been tasked with performing a health needs assessment for the province over the course of 18 months and you, having some knowledge about epidemiology and bio-statistics, is required to estimate the burden of type 2 diabetes in this population. Since there are no surveillance systems in place for diabetes, what measure of health or measure of disease frequency will you calculate and why? Being given a budget of $100,000, briefly propose or speculate how you will obtain the needed information to calculate your measure of disease frequency or burden.

It has been reported that 1.7% of the work force will retire this year. Consider a random sample of 200 workers. What is the probability that more than three of them will retire this year? Use the Poisson approximation to the Binomial Distribution.

A recent marketing survey related consumers’ awareness of a new marketing campaign with their rating of the product. A sample of consumers rated their awareness as “LOW” or “HIGH” and rated the product as “POOR” or “GOOD”. In the survey they found that P(POOR|LOW)=0.25, P(HIGH|POOR)=0.8, P(GOOD|LOW)=0.75 and P(HIGH|GOOD)=0.4. Fill in the below table and create a marginal and joint probability table. Explain your answer. [8%]

b) Firms are increasingly asking applicants to submit to drug tests. 10% of all applicants are drug users. Suppose that drug tests that are used to identify whether a randomly chosen person is a drug user or not are accurate only 98% of the time. What is the probability that a person who has tested positive for drug use is not really a drug user? Explain your answer using a tree diagram. [8%]
c) A publisher wishes to evaluate the effectiveness of a marketing campaign that promotes the adoption of his textbook in Higher Education. To do this, seventy five percent of all potential professors were reached in a focused advertising program. Twenty eight percent of those contacted adopted the textbook while eight percent of the adoptions came from professors who did not receive the promotional material. Use Bayes’ Theorem to find the probability that a professor who adopts the textbook received the advertising material. Explain your answer. [7%]
d) There are five men and four women working on a project. To handle one particular aspect of the project, a sub-committee needs to be formed. In the interest of balance, it is decided that the sub-committee will consist of two men and two women. How many combinations of this sub-committee are possible? [9%]
