She reports that she has been feeling gradually more tired and staying up late at night because she can’t sleep. She does not feel that she is doing as well in her occupation as a secretary and states that she has trouble remembering things.

She does not go outdoors as much as she used to and cannot recall the last time she went out with friends or enjoyed a social gathering. She feels intense guilt regarding past failed relationships because she perceives them as faults

She states she has never thought of suicide, but has begun to feel increasingly worthless.

Her vital signs and general physical examination are normal, although she becomes tearful while talking. Shortly afterward, Emmanuel woke up wheezing and coughing. As he gasped for air, he became more and more anxious. His mother ran for his inhaler, but he was too upset and restless to use it. Emmanuel’s skin became moist with sweat, and as he began to tire, his wheezing became quieter. His mother called 911 and waited anxiously for the ambulance to arrive.

What is a hospital’s responsibility in insuring informed consent?

We will continue to review Case law as a foundation for understanding various concepts necessary to understand the law in regard to healthcare administration. The Canterbury v. Spence case in the background materials dates to 1972, but is considered a “landmark” case in that it established the important concept of the “reasonable person” in regard to informed consent. As clearly explained, the lack of informed consent creates an environment where care providers can be held liable for negligence or torts against a patient.

After reviewing the background readings and doing independent research, examine the case Canterbury v. Spence and answer the following:

Provide the background information regarding the case and the decision of the court.
Explain informed consent and its required elements.
What is the reasonable person standard?
Why is informed consent important in medical care?
What is a hospital’s responsibility in insuring informed consent?
Be sure to cite the peer-reviewed literature.

What could be said about our own society and tradition as it relates to the story?

Essay Assignment #1 (option #1) Description

Your first essay assignment option is to use the topic of tradition and relate it to “The Lottery.”  As you consider this topic, know there are many different approaches you might want to take in developing your thesis.  Here are some things to think about as you decide:

  1. What could be said about our own society and tradition as it relates to the story?
  2. Does everybody in the story feel the same about tradition?
  3. How does tradition shape human behavior?
  4. What is the value of traditions?
  5. How can traditions be harmful?
  6. How does tradition change over time?
  7. What are the beliefs that support the traditions?
  8. What happens to those who defy tradition?
  9. What can we learn from examining the role of traditions in the story?

You might also find helpful the discussion posts and comments from your classmates in developing a thesis for your essay.

Once you have formulated your thesis statement, you will need to come up with three main points that support your thesis.  You will support these points with textual evidence from “The Lottery.”  The textual evidence is the WHY in what you think.  For example, I can infer the Watson father was last year’s “winner” because on page 265, Jack Watson is now drawing as the head of household.

For each of your three supporting points, you will need two pieces of textual evidence.

Thirteen states in America have no minimum age for the adult prosecution of children? How can this be remedied?

Thirteen states in America have no minimum age for the adult prosecution of children? How can this be remedied?

Before children are adults they don’t know what they are doing. Children shouldn’t be prosecuted as an adult because children aren’t mature enough to act as an adult. The frequency of young kids committing horrendous crimes has been on a steady rise for the past couple of decades. This has brought up a very controversial topic that people seem to be very passionate about, you justify trying them in a court designed for adult offenders? In order to better understand the passion behind this debate it is best to gain some insight from both sides of the fight. trying juvenile’s as adults. There are many differences between the justice system for juveniles and the justice system for adults, although many would believe that it is the same at it’s core, it is surely not. In juvenile courts there are no juries and no trials by jury either. In adult courts the sentencing is much harsher and the chance of getting off the hook with some counseling is very slim. If a juvenile is defined as a person under the age of 18, how can
