Identify the developmental impact of each issue. How is the issue impacting the student in the classroom? What does the teacher see that is interfering with learning?

12 part slideshow revision

Effective teaching begins with understanding your students: how they learn, their background and issues that they might face. In the course, TCR 300 Meet Your Students, you were introduced to twenty-four students who are representative of the students in Texas. Several of these students have significant academic issues and/or emotional issues that may impact their performance. This performance-based assessment requires you to identify and research the societal or cultural issues that are faced by four of these students and how they impact their achievement.

Using PowerPoint or Google Slides, you are to create a presentation appropriate for use with other educators or parents. In this presentation you are to do the following:

  • Identify each student and the issue he or she is facing. You must use the four student profiles provided below. DO NOT copy and paste the descriptions provided. Rather, you should explain what you feel are the core issues each face after reading the description.
  • Identify the developmental impact of each issue. How is the issue impacting the student in the classroom? What does the teacher see that is interfering with learning? You will need to include the research that is directly related to the issues and aligned to the developmental goals for the students. For example, you might include a statement such as “According to Dr. I. M. Expert, cyber-bullying is detrimental to a student’s development because it makes students feel unsafe.”
  • Research and provide resources that are directly related to the issue and are aligned to the developmental goals for students. These are resources a parent or teacher could use to learn more about the issue and how to address the impact of the issue. These are resources that may be available in your community, such as food banks, language lessons for parents, etc. You may also choose to include resources that are available from federal, state, and local governments. These are NOT the resources used in your research.

You will suggest supports teachers can use in the classroom to mitigate the impacts of the issue.

Your presentation should be at least 11 slides long. You are expected to have an introductory slide, two slides per student,a closing slide, and a resource/bibliography page for the sources you use in the project.

The presentation must be your original work, and professional in its use of images, language and formatting. Use of another’s work will earn an automatic zero and may be grounds for dismissal from the program.

Apply one of these models to your personal example and explain when each pitfall or stage occurred. Discuss the positive or negative outcome of your team.

Models (Bion or Tuckman)

All of us have been assigned on a team in order to solve a problem, perform an extra duty of some kind or to attend a special school with others. State which type of team (based on Table 2.2 in our chapter reading) you were on (project, work, matrix, parallel, etc.) and explain why it is that type. Think about a time when you were in this team situation and discuss the stages your team progressed through.

Use either Bion’s four possible pitfalls that need to be worked through in groups and teams or use the Tuckman model which outlines stages we move through during team change. Apply one of these models to your personal example and explain when each pitfall or stage occurred. Finally, discuss the positive or negative outcome of your team.

Final Film Critique: Film and Social Resonance Analysis

Throughout this course, you have written essays and participated in discussion forums in an effort to analyze various elements of film, using different theoretical lenses. Considering that this is the final writing assignment, you will want to review all previous class materials, including all chapters read and discussion board responses.

You are encouraged to incorporate writing from your Week 2 and Week 3 assignments only after you have reflected on your instructor’s feedback and revised the relevant parts of the essays accordingly. Additionally, refer to the outline template in the Week 4 assignment. As you are incorporating your previous work, be sure to consider the broader requirements and context of this assignment, especially regarding film as a medium of social commentary. Do not simply cut and paste material but rather use it as a building block to construct a new paper addressing this prompt’s requirements.

This final film critique is your opportunity to combine the previously addressed elements from Weeks’ 2 and 3 papers into analyzing one film and how it might influence society or shine a light on a social issue.

Choose a film from this List of Approved Films Download List of Approved Films. Review the Week 5 Sample Paper Download Week 5 Sample Paper.

Note: You should watch your chosen film twice—once to ensure that you have grasped the storytelling and once more to specifically analyze scenes, techniques, and elements of the film for your paper. If you would like to write about a film not listed, you must contact your professor to request approval in advance or you may not receive credit for this assignment.
