Week 2 Discussion

Part 1)

This week we’re going to get inside the head of a customer because this is what marketers need to do to get their message heard and to influence purchasing decisions. To do this, respond to the following:

In marketing, the customer comes first. You can’t market to potential customers unless you understand their wants, needs, desires, state of mind, interests, income, and more. So why do you think it is important for a marketer to understand how a customer makes that final purchasing decision?

If you were purchasing a car, which one of the following factors would most influence your decision to buy? Then let’s flip, it If a marketer knew this about you, how could he/she use this to better market a new car to you?

  • Price (or)
  • Color (or)
  • Style (or)
  • Status (or)

Discussion Response Requirements

For all of the course discussions, there are no right or wrong answers. You are simply responding to questions in your own words. Do not copy and paste content from the web. This is a violation of Strayer’s Academic Integrity policy.

1. Respond to the discussion with at least four good sentences for each bullet point. Make sure you address all points of each bullet.

2. Reply to at least one classmate with at least four full substantive sentences.

3. Go beyond, “I agree. Great post.” Provide substantive commentary about your classmates’ posts

  • If you respond to multiple classmates, just one needs to meet these requirements, the rest can be shorter. The more posts you respond to, the more insights you are pulling from the class.

2. Remember to post early, for early grading then you can add to your posts if needed.

  • Take advantage of the pre-deadline grading for the discussions. If you make two posts before Sunday night your instructor will grade your discussion board. To view your feedback and if you are not at full credit, go back and add what is needed for full credit and your instructor will update your grade. Your instructor will accept posts for grade improvements until the discussion boards officially close on Mondays at 9:00 AM Eastern Time.

Part 2)

Reply to the classmate’s (Shanieka Konce ) response below in 5 sentences:

Good evening Professor Tracy,

The first the main factor that would influence my decision in buying a car would be price. I say price because I need to be able to afford the car. I then would take the factor into account about the style of the car. These two factors are very important to me because I would want to like and afford the car in order to consider buying the car.

If a marketer knew this about me the marketer could check for their cars that maybe in my price range rather lower or a little higher because chances are if I like the car and it is within my price range rather little higher or lower and is a newer car I would probably be more likely to buy the car. I am also going to say that depending on how nice the marketer is and if he/she seem to really care about me getting something that I would really like and keep in mind my price range this would also help greatly in me purhasing the car. I would not want a marketer who is just trying to get rid of a car to make a sale to get rid of one of their cars and not care about the actual customer just as much as the sell.

What are some of the stresses on Sandra’s middle-aged sisters and their families? What resources are available to manage these stresses and support the sisters while caring for their dying sister Sandra?

Caregiver Role Strain: Ms. Sandra A.

Description

CASE STUDY: Caregiver Role Strain: Ms. Sandra A.

Sandra, a 47-year-old divorced woman, received a diagnosis of stage 3 ovarian cancer 4 years ago, for which she had a total hysterectomy, bilateral salpingo- oophorectomy, omentectomy, lymphadenectomy, and tumor debulking followed by chemotherapy, consisting of cisplatin (Platinol), paclitaxel (Taxol), and doxorubicin (Adriamycin). She did well for 2 years and then moved back to her hometown near her family and underwent three more rounds of secondline chemotherapy. She accepted a less stressful job, bought a house, renewed old friendships, and became more involved with her two sisters and their families.

Sandra developed several complications, including metastasis to the lungs. Then she could no longer work, drive, or care for herself. She had been told by her oncologist that there was nothing else that could be done and that she should consider entering a hospice. She met her attorney and prepared an advance directive and completed her will. She decided to have hospice care at home and, with the help of her family, set up her first floor as a living and sleeping area. She was cared for by family members around the clock for approximately 3 days.

Sandra observed that she was tiring everyone out so much that they could not really enjoy each other’s company. At this time, she contacted the Visiting Nurse Association (VNA) to seek assistance. Her plan was to try to enjoy her family and friend’s visits. After assessment, the VNA nurse prioritized her problems to include fatigue and caregiver role strain. Other potential problem areas that may need to be incorporated into the care plan include anticipatory grieving and impaired comfort.

Reflective Questions

1. What are some of the stresses on Sandra’s middle-aged sisters and their families?

2. What resources are available to manage these stresses and support the sisters while caring for their dying sister Sandra?

3. Describe Sandra’s feelings about dependency and loss of autonomy because she is unable to do her own activities of daily living any longer

What steps should Rob and Pat take? What suggestions would you offer to them? Why? Should Ben provide additional guidance? If so, what information should he provide? Why?

CASE STUDY: First Impressions Can Be Wrong

Ben Baldwin, chief executive officer (CEO) of the Westside Health Consortium, summoned Rob Jameson, vice president for Human Resources, and Pat Collier, chief financial officer, to his office
He told them, “Rob, I agree with your suggestion to change the structure of our benefits package. Pat has supplied financial data to support your suggestion. The costs of benefits continue to rise, with no end in sight. I am asking both of you to work together to develop options for a new plan to replace our existing approach that gives all employees the same benefits. I know that individual and family needs change with time. Westside must institute changes to control costs as well as to attract and retain skilled employees.”

What steps should Rob and Pat take? What suggestions would you offer to them? Why? Should Ben provide additional guidance? If so, what information should he provide? Why?

Based on Bob’s case, your task is to evaluate credible, empirical evidence regarding the effectiveness of behavioural interventions to determine which is most likely to help Bob manage his stress during this challenging time.

CASES STUDY

Stress coping strategies may be classified in many ways, but many people consider behavioural techniques as a part of mind-body medicine and thus, this is an important consideration for psychologists (and related allied health fields). Behavioural interventions for managing stress, such as relaxation training, cognitive behavioural therapy, and emotional disclosure can be effective, but they may not be equally effective in managing the stressful situation.

The Case
Bob, a 26-year-old cis-gendered non-Indigenous Australian man from Redfern (NSW), is experiencing occupational stress and burnout. He is otherwise healthy. He has recently completed his MClin degree and is now preparing to write his board exam with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA) in six months’ time to register as a general psychologist. As a provisional psychologist, he is also currently a full-time behavioural support specialist. He knows the additional demands on his time and attention are temporary with his upcoming board exam, but he is starting to feel generally anxious, quick to temper, not sleeping well, and is dissatisfied with his job, career path, and interpersonal relationships. He feels overwhelmed, rather than simply challenged, and has started to procrastinate on study tasks for the board exam.

Your task
Based on Bob’s case, your task is to evaluate credible, empirical evidence regarding the effectiveness of behavioural interventions to determine which is most likely to help Bob manage his stress during this challenging time. You should select two of the following three interventions: (1) relaxation training, (2) cognitive behavioural therapy, and (3) emotional disclosure, to compare in your critical evaluation of the evidence.
