Of the theorists you discuss, which do you think provides the most promising new direction for moral philosophy? Or is it a promising direction at all? Defend your answer.

On the final exam for this course, you will be asked to answer the following question in clearly written paragraphs. You do not have to follow a formal essay-writing format in answering this question – no introduction, thesis statement, or conclusion is required. Just imagine that you are diving into the body of an essay in which you are asked to summarize and evaluate philosophical arguments.

The Question
In the last three weeks of the course, we examined moral philosophy through the lens of existentialism and feminist theory in the writings of Sartre, Beauvoir and Baier. Their perspectives put moral theory on a new footing in comparison to how it has been approached in the past. Explain how TWO of these theorists represent a break from past ways of thinking about morality. Of the theorists you discuss, which do you think provides the most promising new direction for moral philosophy? Or is it a promising direction at all? Defend your answer.

Note that this question will make up the totality of your exam. You should devote ¾ of your answer to summary and ¼ to evaluation of philosophical arguments.

What kind of writer are you? What do you think is your writing style? Compare yourself to an animal or a color or the weather or a person or think of another way to describe your writing style.

Consider who you were as a write in September and who you are as a writer now in December, three months and many assignments later.

To help you reflect, respond to the following 4 questions in a loose essay form:

1. How well do you think you express your ideas through writing?
What are your strengths? What are your weaknesses?

2. What kind of writer are you? What do you think is your writing style?
Compare yourself to an animal or a color or the weather or a person or think of another way to describe your writing style.

3. Describe your unique drafting process. What exactly do you do? How do you draft, move from draft #1 to draft #2. What are your plans for draft #3?

4. What surprised you about your writing this semester? What disappointed you?

I encourage you to be creative! What sound do your fingers make on the keyboard as you type? What color ink do you use to freewrite or annotate? What sounds occur around you when you try to write–is it a loud kitchen full of bustle and voices, a quiet bedroom with blue flowered wallpaper, or what? Use details and narrative to tell your story as a writer.

How does your company integrate innovation and entrepreneurship into its long-term planning and, based on learnings from class, what would you change about your organization?

Business Presentation

Option 1: Written Exam
These questions will cover major, pertinent business issues covered in the DBA coursework. This is an “open-note exam”, but concepts presented in the questions will not have cut-and-dried answers. They will require critical and thinking and concept integration from all DBA courses.
Once the exams are collected, the DBA faculty will grade the questions based on completeness of theory and thinking from a rubric. Then, a grade will be assigned to each question of:
Pass
Marginal Pass
Fail
If you receive a Pass on a question, nothing more needs to be done. If you receive a Marginal Pass on a question, a faculty member will reach out to you for additional information that may be shared via email. If a question is a Fail, you must completely re-do that question as separate Microsoft Word document.
Grading should be completed before the beginning of Spring Block I.

Option 2: Portfolio Project

The Portfolio Project will be done virtually with the screen sharing of a PowerPoint slide.  In the Portfolio Project, you must look at your industry / research / future occupation through the eyes of all of the non-statistics courses of the DBA Program.  In essence, you need to be able to answer the following questions:

Pick any TWO of the CURRENT TOPICS courses to focus on and discuss how you can integrate the learnings from class into your occupation.
Once the Portfolio Projects are completed, the DBA faculty will grade the projects based on the rubric disseminated on November 14th. Then, a grade will be assigned to each Project of:
Pass
Marginal Pass

Understanding And Optimizing Business Systems

There are currently 4 recycling facilities (A, B, C and D) operating in the city of Glasgow. In addition, the Glasgow city council is considering 2 potential locations E and F to locate their recycling facilities. Facilities at these locations can be opened and operated at a cost of £75,000 per facility. This expansion is to support their burgeoning metropolitan city. They have divided their city into 10 zones. Each zone has a collection point where they collect recyclable waste from the residents of that zone. The expected amount of waste material collected in these 10 zones is given in the data file. The estimated recycling cost at a facility for the materials collected from a specific zone (per kg) is also provided in the file. This variation occurs because the recycling cost incorporates various components such as transportation cost, wages, grades of the recycling materials collected, etc. In addition, there is a restriction on how many kilograms of waste material that can be processed by a particular facility. The waste material that cannot be recycled has to be disposed at a cost of £16.25/kg.
They are currently considering the following two options:

a. Do not open any new facilities and use only current facilities.

b. Open facilities in E and F in addition to current facilities.

The management would like to hire you for your consulting services as an Operational Research Analyst to advise them on which option they should take forward and why. You need to prepare an Excel file with two sheets for two models. In addition to the Excel file, you need to send them a 1page summary letter, where you explain them briefly your approach and recommendation along with appropriate justification. (Note: The administrators have business degrees and are therefore not familiar with technical terms, so your letter should not involve any technical terms.)

(Each model is worth 25 marks and the summary letter is worth 50 marks)

Which areas of your draft do you think will benefit most from revision? Sophia says: Consider the organization, style, focus, development, and conventions of your draft. Which areas did you struggle to complete?

A. Instructions
Choose one of the following prompts for your informative essay.

PROMPT A: IMAGE ANALYSIS: Although we look at print advertisements every day, we often do not consider the ways in which they affect us. Visual images in ads can influence and persuade us, so it is important to evaluate them critically to understand their meanings. Good image analysis involves examination of the components of an image to gain an understanding of the whole.

Select an advertisement to analyze. The advertisement you choose should be directed towards a specific audience. To identify the intended audience, think about the members of the potential audience for the advertisement that you have chosen. Who are they? Ads for a beauty product, for example, may be aimed at young girls; ads for a deodorant might target men; a diaper commercial is likely intended for new parents; ads for cruise trips might be aimed at retirees. You can use any academically-appropriate advertisement to complete this assignment, as long as its intended audience is clearly identified.

Your thesis must inform the reader of your topic and purpose. Because you are writing in the informative mode, use objective language and a neutral point of view.

Draft an analytical essay that examines the audience, context, and purpose of the advertising image you’ve chosen. Read the article by Jenna Pack titled “Breaking Down an Image” found in the “Model Informative Essays” tutorial for ideas about how to write an image analysis. Your analysis should lead to a conclusion about the ad’s effectiveness, based on examination of its components. Include the image with your draft.

PROMPT B: EXTENDED DEFINITION: Define or redefine one of the following words:
Family
Success
Courage
Art
Beauty

In your draft, briefly explain how society, or the dictionary, defines the word you’ve selected, and then explain your unique or extended definition of the word. Provide examples and explanations to support your definition. Your thesis must inform your readers of your new definition and, because you are writing in the informative mode, you must use objective language.

Draft an extended definition essay that defines or redefines a word or concept. Read the article by Dan Richards titled “Digital Ethics” found in the “Model Informative Essays” tutorial for ideas about how to write an extended definition essay.

B. Think About Your Writing
As a part of your completed draft, complete the color coding activity and include answers to all of the questions below your draft.

PART 1: Color Coding Activity

Using the color codes provided, evaluate your draft as follows:

Use red text to indicate your thesis statement.
Use green text to indicate the topic sentence of each body paragraph.

PART 2: Questions

1. What is the significance of your essay? Why should readers care about what you have written? (2-3 sentences) Sophia says: Think about why you decided to analyze this particular image, or why you picked the word you chose to define. Your interest in in your subject matter should be clear to readers.

2. Which areas of your draft do you think will benefit most from revision? (2-3 sentences) Sophia says: Consider the organization, style, focus, development, and conventions of your draft. Which areas did you struggle to complete?

3. Consider the strengths and weaknesses of your writing. How can you capitalize on your strengths and improve on your weaknesses in future essays? (3-4 sentences) Sophia says: Think about what was easy about writing the draft, and what was more difficult. For example, if you write paragraphs with strong topic sentences, but repeatedly use the same type of sentence to provide supporting details, you can improve your paragraphs by varying sentence structure.

C. Informative Draft Guidelines
DIRECTIONS: Refer to the checklist below throughout the writing process. Do not submit your Touchstone until your draft meets all of the guidelines.

Choose a psalm you will be working on, build a strong bibliography that reflects the current Psalms studies, and write an Annotated Bibliography before working on your paper.

Psalms Paper- Psalms 40

RESEARCH PAPER (100 points)
Each student who desires to earn an A for the semester is required to write a research paper over a psalm from the list of the psalms.
That means, this assignment is optional. If you are fine with less than an A for the semester, you don’t have to write a paper.

Choose a psalm you will be working on, build a strong bibliography that reflects the current Psalms studies, and write an Annotated Bibliography before working on your paper.

The length of the paper should be 8 to 10 pages, double-spaced, with footnotes ideally, but for non-Bible majors, parenthetical notes are acceptable as long as both author’s name and page numbers are included.
Your paper should include a brief (1 page long) introduction to the current Psalms studies (keep in mind that your target audience is fellow students who have not done any academic study of the Psalms and thus have no idea what the paradigm shifts in Psalms studies mean), the genre, structure, and plot of your psalm, its theological teaching, and how it functions in the Psalter (at least a page), specifically in the book in which your psalm is placed.
