What screening procedures will you use for inclusion/ exclusion? What intersectional identities are in play and how will the blend of potential participants be influenced by demographic and cultural characteristics?

Group Proposal

Section 1-Title, Purpose, Format of the Group: this bit of information can be used to guide the paper read below.

Name of group and why that title was chosen.
Define your group as one of the following types: mutual support, psychoeducational, or therapy.
Explain why this group is needed.
Cite literature supporting use of the model and/or type of group you are using and why it is well matched to the target population.
State the goals of the group.
What is the plan for the number, frequency, length, and time of meetings and what is the rationale for those decisions?
Identify whether the group is open or closed in terms of population and whether it is a fixed number of sessions or on-going (and why). Discuss the pros & cons of your chosen format.
Describe your role as a leader or co-leader, and what you will do in that role (active, reflective, educative etc.).

Section 2- Group Conditions:
What physical space, financial, child-care, transportation, food or other arrangements will need to be considered?
If necessary, how will you advocate for what you need to run the group?
Describe how you will plan for your group sessions.
Include an appendix with a sample outline for at least three group sessions and the major topics to be covered (if defined topics are part of your group).

Section 3-Recruitment, Engagement:
Recruitment
Who is the population you are trying to recruit and what demographic or personal history qualities affect the likelihood that they will connect to the group?
What screening procedures will you use for inclusion/ exclusion?
What intersectional identities are in play and how will the blend of potential participants be influenced by demographic and cultural characteristics?
What problems do you anticipate with recruitment, permissions, or screening?

Engagement
How will you orient and engage the group at the first meeting?
How will you manage issues of power and privilege, including your own?
How will you work with differences of race, gender, economic status, age, education levels or other personal characteristics of group members, particularly in conjunction with your own intersectional position and privilege?
What challenges do you anticipate in engaging the group members?

Section 4- Group Interventions and Cohesion:
What intervention modalities do you expect to use most often?
Be sure the interventions are appropriate for the type of group you are running. For example, if this is a mutual support group, specific facilitation skills are more likely to be a customary intervention, mini-lectures may be part of a psychoeducation group, while in a psychotherapeutic group, reflection might be a regularly used intervention. Be detailed about your interventions.
Include references from the literature to support the use of this type of treatment for your population. If there is no evidence base for your population, cite evidence from the closest population and note the lack of research relating to your target population.
How will you promote group cohesion?
Name two potential challenging scenarios that may arise and describe how you would intervene to manage them.

Section 5- Evaluation:
How will you assess how the group is functioning over time?
How will you evaluate whether the group’s purpose/ goals have been achieved?
How will you evaluate your role as the facilitator in engaging, assessing and intervening with this group?
Summary of why this proposed group should take place.

Identify the role of the market, the state, and the civil society under the implementation of your solutions. Evaluate the applicability and critical aspects of your solutions.

Racial versus Rurality

This paper should include the following sections:

1)- Topic to be investigated. In doing so:     (100 Points)
State clearly your objective(s) in conducting this research.
State your central research question(s).
Identify your unit(s) of analysis (e.g., communities, groups, countries, etc.).
Review the debates in the literature concerning the problem.
Justify why this problem is sociologically important.

2)-Findings:     (100 Points)
Analyze the complexity of rural communities and/or agri-food systems in regard to your problem/topic and respond your research question/s. You should include analysis of primary data (e.g., documents, products from news or the media, websites, proceedings of policy making and/or implementation, etc.) or secondary data (e.g., survey results, census, etc.) sources wherever appropriate.

3)- Possible strategies that could be developed by the state, the private sector and/or the civil society (NGOs, consumers, etc.) to solve or alleviate the problem/s (while making social change and contributing to sustainable rural communities or agri-food systems):

Review the evidence to date concerning key solution strategies, and select (or propose) the strategy that seems optimal. You should include strategies and/or ideas from the readings and class.
Identify the role of the market, the state, and the civil society under the implementation of your solutions.
Evaluate the applicability and critical aspects of your solutions.

4)- Conclusions: discuss the implications of your findings. In addition, you may want to highlight findings that you did not expect and their implications for your future involvement/work on this area.  (25 Points)

To what extent do we have a responsibility to protect vulnerable populations from patients and parents who refuse treatment?

Vulnerable populations

This homework/reading selection assignment asks you to take notes on what you read/see. You should have at least 2 full pages of typed notes (NOT including your heading, my questions–if you print them, works cited, etc.). They can be double-spaced, 12 pt font.

For this week’s reading, address the following:

1. Not vaccinating children causes “herd immunity” to go down. This puts “vulnerable populations” at significant risk. To what extent do we have a responsibility to protect vulnerable populations from patients and parents who refuse treatment?

2. Perform an ethical evaluation, using at least 2 sentences., which supports your answer to the first question above. One sentence should address a brief description of an ethical theory, and how it decides what is right or wrong. A second sentence should address why your ethical theory supports your answer to the first question above.

3. If you have any space left, take notes on the week’s readings/film. Be sure to have at least two pages of HW total on the week’s readings/film. Be sure to use quotation marks and citation when you refer to a text word-for-word (there is a film transcript you can cite). Be sure to use citation when you refer to a text by paraphrasing (in your own words).

Illustrate ways in which more gender equality might influence the decisions about conflict resolution. Discuss how gender roles were divided.

Examine how the Iroquois were treated during the negotiation process. Were they treated fairly? Explain how this goes against the concept of democracy. When was it recognized that the Iroquois contributed to the founding of democracy? Discuss problems that still exist.

In the video a point about conflict resolution comes about when they mention Lacrosse. Explain what significance that would have?

Describe the concept of “everyone has a gift” mentioned in the video.

Explore situations you see today that might benefit from these concepts being applied today.
