According to Foner, how did American ideas of freedom change during the era of the Revolution? To what extent do the documents we have read during weeks six and seven support Foner’s argument?

The Story of American Freedom,

In the first part of The Story of American Freedom, Eric Foner argues that the experience of the Revolution transformed Americans’ ideas of freedom. He suggests, in other words, that freedom meant different things after the Revolution than before. For this assignment, write a short essay exploring Foner’s argument using the documents assigned for weeks six and seven.

According to Foner, how did American ideas of freedom change during the era of the Revolution? To what extent do the documents we have read during weeks six and seven support Foner’s argument?

This assignment asks you to explain Foner’s argument and draw connections between that argument and the documents. Your essay should be 750-900 words long (about 3 pages), double-spaced, in a 10 or 12-point font. It should have a clear thesis statement that directly addresses the question and introduces your essay’s major point. It should support the thesis with a well-developed argument using both Foner and the documents. You should document the sources thoroughly with MLA citation, and your essay should have a works cited page (MLA). Remember, you must cite a source whenever you draw information from a source, not just when you quote.

What type of guests (target market) would appeal to this hotel classification. Name one hotel that fits into each classification and why you feel it matches that classification.

Classification of Hotels

Hotels are often classified according to the hotel size, location, target markets, levels of service, facilities provided, number of rooms, ownership, and affiliation, to name a few. As future sales managers, it is important to know each classification because the guest level of expectations is often aligned with the type of hotel.

select two classifications that you might be interested in working in and provide the following:

  • An overview of the two hotel classifications and their unique features. (three to five features)
  • What type of guests (target market) would appeal to this hotel classification.

Name one hotel that fits into each classification and why you feel it matches that classification

Find an article that mentions a new drug that promises an improved survival rate. Identify whether this rate represents the mean or the median of the data set.

Discussion Week 3

This video focuses on when to use a mean and when to use a median. When data all have similar values, such as housing prices of similar-sized houses on the same block, then the mean is an appropriate measure, but if the value of one residence is 50 times as high as the others, then the median gives a better description of a typical value than the mean.

However, you want to get away from the idea that the data, and only the data, drives the choice of descriptive statistics. The example is given that, if you wanted to buy all the houses in Brooklyn, if you took the median, and multiplied by the number of houses, you wouldn’t have enough cash. So, the median is a useful descriptive statistic, but the mean is essential for planning and making decisions.

Option 1: Find an article that mentions a new drug that promises an improved survival rate.

Identify whether this rate represents the mean or the median of the data set.
Assess whether that is ideally what you’d want to know for this data.
Provide a specific reason for your answer.

Does your research indicate that the policy works? Is it cost-effective? What criteria for success does the policy succeed or fail at? Does the evidence you’ve used to answer these questions have methodological problems, or is it sound?

The Limitations of Solitary Confinement

Policy Analysis Paper: The goal here is to explore a specific issue within the realm of contemporary American criminal justice: Solitary Confinement. Focus on one policy solution to the problem at hand that has been put into practice and to then to evaluate that approach according to the metrics we have discussed throughout the semester. This means first that I’d like you to tell me about what the possible or confirmed theoretical underpinnings of the policy are. For example, if I were going to discuss the policy of mandatory minimum sentencing, I would probably talk about deterrence theory as a theoretical justification for it.
After telling me about the problem, policy, and theoretical justifications for the policy, I would like you to explore whether the policy in question is evidence-based, which is where our understanding of both methods and policymaking comes in. Does your research indicate that the policy works? Is it cost-effective? What criteria for success does the policy succeed or fail at?
Does the evidence you’ve used to answer these questions have methodological problems, or is it sound? Furthermore, I would like you to discuss the political environment in which the policy was put into effect. Was it sold to the public somehow, or was it enacted with an element of secrecy? For example, if I wanted to look at a policy of reduced sentences for first-time drug
offenders, I might suggest that the efforts were passed by emphasizing the money-saving nature of it or a reliance on rehabilitation advocacy.
Finally, I would like you to conclude with a recommendation based on what you have learned. Should the policy in question be continued as is? Should it be changed? Perhaps you think it should be abandoned entirely in favor of something new. Whatever your recommendation is, tell me about it and justify it in the context of what has come before.
