How does this source relate to what you have learned this semester? Does it support what you have seen previously? Does it contradict it? Does it complicate it?

Ancient Rome Final question

I. Source Analysis (20 points)

Pick ONE of the options below and answer the questions that follow it.

Option 1: Relief showing Julia Domna crowning Caracalla

Note: The original findspot is unknown (possibly Syriait is definitely not an official imperial monument but a piece of art in which inhabitants of the provinces commented on events). It is now in a museum in Poland.

(a) Briefly (but accurately) describe or summarize your source (2 points)
(b) State three plausible conclusions that the source allows you to draw (6 points)
(c) For any one of the conclusions you have listed above, discuss how your source allows you to reach that conclusion. Please comment on specific details. (5 points)
(d) How does this source relate to what you have learned this semester? Does it support what you have seen previously? Does it contradict it? Does it complicate it? This question is best answered by comparing this new source to one or two specific other bits of material that we have studied in this class (5 points)
(e) Formulate a question to do with this new source. Anything goes: requests for clarification of a certain detail, a broader question about the Romans prompted by this source etc. (2 points)

Option 2: Historia Augusta Lives of Carus, Numerian, Carinus 18
The Historia Augusta is a set of imperial biographies by an unknown author that continues Suetonius’ work
We have now come to the end of the three emperors, Carus, Numerian and Carinus [3 Chaos Emperors], after whom the gods gave us Diocletian and Maximian to be our princes, joining to these great men Galerius and Constantius, the one of whom was born to wipe out the disgrace incurred by Valerian’s capture, the other, to bring again the province of Gaul under the laws of Rome. Four rulers, indeed, of the world were they, brave, wise, kindly, and wholly generous, all of one mind toward the state, very respectful to the Roman senate, moderate, friends of the people, revered, earnest, and pious, and, in fact, such emperors as we have always desired.

(b) State three plausible conclusions that the source allows you to draw (6 points)
(c) For any one of the conclusions you have listed above, discuss how your source allows you to reach that conclusion. Please comment on specific details. (5 points)

II. Essay (50 points)
Pick ONE of the following options. Your response should be about 12 pages in length (double spaced, reasonable font and margins)

1. In the second half of this course, you saw a lot of coins of Roman emperors (and, occasionally, other members of the imperial family). Coins are the only form of mass media available in the Roman world, so they are enormously important for advertising a ruler’s priorities. But not all famous Romans have coins associated with them. Please think of a Roman (note: this means no Hannibal, Cleopatra, Boudica and the like) who you think really needs a fancy new coin. Propose a design and explain why you think this coin would do a good job showcasing this individual.

2. We have encountered many colorful characters in this course. Not all of their actions and decisions can be fully explained with information that we have in the surviving sources. Imagine that you could go back in time to have dinner with one of the individuals in this course. Who would you pick, what is one question you would ask them and why is this question important for our understanding of Roman history?

3. Throughout this course, we have encountered many different models of Roman leadership. What do you think makes a good Roman leader? Do you think that the answer to this question changes over time or do the ideals of Roman leadership remain static throughout the approximately 1,000 years of history that we have studied this semester?

Based on the student’s Cultural Immersion experiences, develop a voiceover PowerPoint presentation to share with their course mates.

Discussion: Video Presentation: Cultural Immersion Experience Assignment Instructions

The Cultural Immersion Experience Video Presentation allows the students to consider multicultural trends found in a particular diverse cultural group of the United States and to begin comparing/contrasting their own cultural experience with that of this other group.  Through the actual experience of what it is like to be immersed in a different culture, greater insight will occur into the role of the counselor in developing cultural self-awareness, understanding the role of community, cultural, and family systems, the promotion of social justice and advocacy, and the importance of eliminating biases.

Based on the student’s Cultural Immersion experiences, each student will develop a voiceover PowerPoint presentation to share with their course mates. The video presentation should address the following elements:

The video presentation should include the following content from the immersion experience:

  • The four key elements learned from research
  • Historical/current oppression of chosen population
  • Summary of two events and three (3) key things that were learned
  • Summary of agency/organization interview using question prompts
  • Summary of individual/couple interview information using question prompts
  • Summary of experience using prompts
  • A discussion of specific and practical application to counseling

The presentation parameters should include the following elements:

  • A professional PPT/Prezi that is well organized and appealing with appropriate pictures. Word count should be limited in the PPT/Prezi and should only include prompts to be covered by the student during video recording of the presentation. The slides need to include citation of scholarly references.
  • Voiceover presentation should last between 15-20 minutes.
  • This can be completed by using Kaltura Capture. See instructions for Kaltura in the thread. Please reach out to LU IT for technical support.

Students will view and reply to two other student initial videos and comment on the presentation sharing a reflective summary of what was viewed.

NOTE: When viewing initial videos, ensure that you view videos wherein there are either no replies or one reply from another student. If you happen to see an initial post wherein there are two replies from other students, then you must select another initial post. As part of your replies, include approximately 200 words for each reply commenting on the content of the video presentation.

Based on the given specification, perform manual design calculation of each machine element using necessary equations and selection of standard parts.

NU-BEng Mechanical Engineering

Task
Individual specification of machine components shown in Figure 1 will be given to each student.

Based on the given specification, students should perform the following activities:
Manual design calculation of each machine element using necessary equations and selection of standard parts.
Students may consider reasonable assumptions besides the given specification wherever necessary.
Stress analyses based on suitable elastic theories of failure.
Sketches that show free body diagrams, forces, stresses, etc.
After performing the above activities make a report with a minimum of 1500 words and upload through NU-CoE Learn online-link that will be provided.

Take one of the chapters that you found interesting and expand upon it through research from peerreviewed sites. Research at least 10 peer-reviewed papers and dive deeper into any section of a chapter.

Social Engineering on Frame Transformation

Throughout this course we have talked about (and will continue to talk about) a great deal of social engineering techniques. Bottom line though, all of what we learned is the various ways we can achieve our end goal. Since we know there are various ways to reach our goals that leads us to our research paper’s focus.

Take one of the chapters that you found interesting and expand upon it through research from peerreviewed sites. For example if you liked Chapter #8 where we talked about Nonverbals then you to research more on the subject. See what experiments have been done on the social engineering topic you have chosen.

You are to research at least 10 peer-reviewed papers and dive deeper into any section of a chapter. Our book does a great job of sharing their research and the links so these would be a great place to use as a resource. Also make sure to visit our library to access a wealth of information and access to professional databases.
