Who is the intended target audience for this book? Why did you focus on this topic? Do you think this story would be banned, why or why not?

Children Story

READ CAREFULLY! You are going to construct your own children’s story as a final project for this course. Your book must try to educate students on a particular topic and should follow the basic elements found in children’s books. There is not major restrictions to this project, you can write a book around a topic that would be banned in certain states, or it can just be a book about a topic you think children need to learn about in a fun and engaging manner.

You are responsible for the content, visuals, and overall look of the children’s book. You can create all visuals with construction paper or crayons, you do not have to pay for an expensive illustration to get credit for this project.

You can work in pairs, or on your own. At the end of the semester there will be 4 days to read the book to the class, present the illustrations, and then have a short conversation with us about what lead you to create this story in the first place. In this conversation you should answer the following questions:

  • Do you think this story would be banned, why or why not?
  • How did this project teach you about the freedom of speech (expression) as protected under the first amendment?

Give the Trickster’s name and the culture the myth came from. Identify and discuss the traits of the Trickster. Give a brief summary of at least one myth involving the Trickster.

Research the trickster characters from three different cultures

This will be a Research Paper. You will need to research the trickster characters from three different cultures of your choosing. Each of your body paragraphs should include the following:

  • The Trickster’s name
  • The culture the myth came from
  • The traits of the particular Trickster
  • A summary of at least one myth involving the Trickster
  • How this Trickster compares to the other Tricksters you will discuss
  • How this Trickster contrasts with the other Tricksters you will discuss

Your introduction should explain two things to your reader. First define and explain what an archetype is. Then, define and explain what a Trickster is. Use examples to help you show the reader what you mean.

Your conclusion should tie the trickster archetype into our own culture. Identify a character in a modern television show, film, video game, book, or other kind of story who has the aspects of a Trickster. Explain this character to your reader. Then, in your last few sentences, try to come to an important insight about Tricksters why do these quirky characters show up over and over again all over the world and across time?

Appropriately cite all of the websites or books you use to gather information. You will need at least three sources (one for each Trickster you discuss). Include these in a Works Cited page at the end of your paper.

Your audience for this paper should be an imaginary student taking your course. Your tone should be academic. Your essay should be between two and five pages (500-1500 words). You must include citations, but there is no requirement that you use quotes. If you use words directly from a source, make sure it is in quotations. Should a U.S. or European company take advantage of a country’s weak approach to business and political ethics? Would your answer change if your decision saved your company $1 million?

Business Ethics Case Study 500-700 words

PROMPT: Is It Ethical to Dump Toxic Waste in Countries That Allow It? Should a multinational company take advantage of another country’s lack of regulation or enforcement if it saves money to do so? A New York Times news correspondent reporting from Nigeria found a collection of steel drums stacked behind a village’s family living compound. In this mid-1990s case, ten thousand barrels of toxic waste had been dumped where children live, eat, and drink.

As safety and environmental hazard regulations in the United States and Europe have driven toxic waste disposal costs up to $3,000 per ton, toxic waste brokers are looking for the poorest nations with the weakest laws, often in West Africa, where the costs might be closer to $3 per ton. The companies in this incident were looking for cheap waste-dumping sites, and Nigeria agreed to take the toxic chemical waste without notifying local residents. Local people wearing shorts, t-shirts, and sandals unloaded barrels of polychlorinated biphenyls, placing them next to a residential area. Nigeria has often been near the top of the United Nations’ list of most corrupt nations, with government leaders cutting deals to line their own pockets while exposing their citizens to environmental hazards. A more recent example occurred in Côte d’Ivoire (Ivory Coast) in 2006, when residents discovered that hundreds of tons of “slops” (chemicals) from a foreign-owned ship had been dumped near Abidjan, the country’s commercial capital. The ship was owned by a multinational energy company named Trafigura. According to a report from Amnesty International, more than 100,000 residents were sickened, leading to fifteen deaths. Trafigura had illegally dumped the toxic waste in Côte d’Ivoire after searching for a disposal site in several other countries.
