Define and explain international environmental issues in the 21st century. Based on your understanding of environmental issues and international relations, how should the US approach climate change?

Political Science Question

Answer 2 of the following questions. In each answer, fully describe/define terms, explain your reasoning, and then develop your assessment using examples from the readings(all readings provided from Boyer). Do not use outside sources (except news sources).

Include a bibliography/works cited page along with your in-text citations (parenthetical or endnotes or footnotes). You should use either MLA or APA style for your citations and works cited page. Write approximately 2 pages per question:

1. Compare and contrast economic nationalism and economic internationalism. How do they shape international political economy. Likewise, describe the institutions created out of the Bretton Woods Conference. How have they influenced the international economy? Use examples from the global news, Shiraev, and Boyer.

2. To many, the most important questions, and issues, in world politics today, concern human rights. How has the international community sought to define human rights? Are these rights universal or are they relative based on culture and level of development? In your essay, use the case of the rights of women and girls to explain why human rights are important in world politics.

3. Describe the role of dependency in the global economy. What role has imperialism and colonialism played in persistent poverty in the global south? Use examples to explain your analysis.

4. Define and explain international environmental issues in the 21st century. Based on your understanding of environmental issues and international relations, how should the US approach climate change?

5. Select one current issue from a global news source to analyze (less than one month old). Describe its key elements, explain why and how it is significant and then make any predictions you can based on your description and explanation of the issue. (Include the news source, date and title of the news source).

How important is the issue of supplier capacity in this case? How did your group evaluate supplier capacity? What level of attention or importance should supplier capacity receive during the sourcing decision? Why?

Supplier Evaluation and Selection

Questions:

1. What is your recommended sourcing strategy in this case? Please support your decision with quantitative and qualitative evidence gathered during the case analysis. Use a weighted score card to evaluate the suppliers (Excel is required for the calculations). Also, present your plan to reduce any risks associated with your sourcing decision.

Note: We have not covered Total Cost of Ownership as yet but you can attempt those calculations (which are really quite straightforward) and it will be treated as a bonus.

2. How important is the issue of supplier capacity in this case? How did your group evaluate supplier capacity? What level of attention or importance should supplier capacity receive during the sourcing decision? Why?

3. The issue of single versus multiple sourcing is an important consideration during supplier selection. Identify the potential advantages and disadvantages of single and multiple sourcing (not only as they relate to this case).

In order to complete this case adequately, you will need to perform various analyses (using Excel where appropriate). These are designed to support the supplier evaluation and selection decision.

Create an annotated bibliography of study articles as part of a Review of Literature following the guidelines in Gray & Grove, (2021) and share your review.

Prevalence of medicine resistance in oncology

A Review of Literature is conducted to generate an understanding of what is known and not known about a topic of interest. You have identified a topic/problem in Module 1 Discussion Board – Research Problem and found three related study articles in Module 4. In this assignment, you will create an annotated bibliography of study articles as part of a Review of Literature following the guidelines in Gray & Grove, (2021) and share your review. Submit your Annotated Bibliography as one paper (as a Word Docx) to the assignment link first, and then your three articles in pdf format. Use the Template below to assist your writing.

Instructions for Completing Your Assignment

Step one:  Choose the topic, identify a nursing clinical practice problem that you would like to explore. You should have done this in week one.

Step two: Complete the readings from Module 1, 2 & 3, focusing on Chapter 7 Stages of a Literature Review pp.126-134, Chapter 18, and information provided by the nurse librarian.

Step three: Using the information that you discussed in Module 1 Discussion- Research Problem, briefly discuss the significance and identify the gap in the literature. (Why do you need to study this problem?)  Enter into the template. Make sure that it identifies a gap in the literature and has a citation.

Step four:  Use your three articles that you found in Module 4 for the Annotated Bib. These studies need to relate to your topic and clinical problem. Your studies must be quantitative research articles (for example: quantitative descriptive, correlational or quasi-experimental or experimental designs). At least two studies must be prospective (data actually collected at the time of the study). The other may be retrospective or prospective. Your studies may NOT be a qualitative study, a quality improvement study, a systematic review, meta-synthesis, meta-analysis, meta-summary, or integrative review.  Do not use a thesis or dissertation.  No animal studies or pilot studies. The article should not be a general information article without the elements of a study (e.g.: must include a review of literature and a methods section with results and discussion).

  • Studies/ articles must be current, within 5 years.
  • Include the article reference at the beginning of the Annotated bib. Citations are to be written in APA format.
  • The articles you use must meet the following mandatory requirements noted in Chapter 3 (Types of Quantitative Research).

Step five: Find the elements in your articles that are named in the format and type them into your paper. Use paragraphs as needed in the Bib to separate ideas.

Step six:  If you have questions about your work, post them to the Q & A discussion board for feedback from your peers / instructor.

Step seven: Write up your assignment. Should be no more than 1 page per Bib

Annotated Bibliography – Write up your findings in the template and submit them to CANVAS by the due date and time listed in your syllabus.  Here’s how to write up your findings:

  • This is to be submitted in WORD dox
  • All of your articles will be written in one paper. No more than one page per article.

Don’t forget to use the group discussion board for additional questions about your paper.

Explain 3-4 ways you think about “religion” differently now that you’ve taken this course. State what each of these 4 ways of thinking differently is, and then for each one, discuss a concrete example of something that you view differently compared to before you took the class.

RELS 102B (Spring 2023) — Instructions for Final Paper

Due Monday, May 1, no later than 10pm (uploaded to Canvas)

Part 1: Simplified Version of Religion Profile #3

  • Choose an implicit religion from our list (on Canvas), except you may not choose the gym (or anything similar) or Greek life. Instead of doing the full analysis, you’ll look for articles that provide evidence of what makes that thing a religion.
  • Find at least 6 articles from credible websites — but you may need more than 6! You need to find enough articles that provide clear evidence/examples for each of the items below.
  • You may use an article as your support for no more than 2 of the items below.
  • If you know someone who is/was a participant in the implicit religion, you may use their stories for no more than 2 of the items below.

From your articles, find an example/illustration for each of the following items:

1) The community’s leadership structure / authoritative people (2 example of leadership structure or authoritative people)

2A) A major authorized activity/ritual of the community (2 example for both)

2B) A different major authorized activity/ritual of the community (1 example)

3) A major authorized idea in the community (1 example)

4A) Something that participants commonly do to communicate to people outside the community that they are an insider in this community.

4B) Another thing that participants commonly do to communicate to people outside the community is that they are an insider in this community.

5) An example of how this community guides participants about

  • how to act towards people in situations that are un-related to this community or about
  • how to change society according to the community’s values (example outside the community)

6) Choice: An example of a common emotionally intense experience in the community OR

  • a text (or set of texts) that has authority OR
  • a place that has special importance or authority for the community OR
  • 3-4 terms of the community’s special vocabulary/way of talking.

For each of the items above, complete the following:

  • Provide the link to one of the articles that contains a good illustration/example.
  • *new from Tuesday’s class* Write a sentence explaining how you know that the website is a credible source for information.
  • Paste (within quotation marks) 2-3 sentences from the article that describe the illustration/ example you are using to support this item.
  • Write 1 sentence explaining what the sentences you pasted in are telling us or why they are a good illustration/ example of this item. (In other words, you can start with “What this article shows us that …” or “This is a good example for this item because…”

So by the end, you’ll have a list of 6 articles, and then you’ll have 8 items — and for each item, you’ll have (1) a link, (2) an explanation about the source, (3) a quotation, and (4) a 1-sentence analysis.

Part 2: Reflection on Your Learning

Q2.1: What things function as a religion in your life? They can be official or implicit religions. For this question, assume that there are at least 2 things that function as a religion in your life — even if you personally don’t think of them as a religion. What would a scholar trained in our class who was studying your life think were your 2 religions? Write at least 200 words on each one, explaining what the religion is and what signs/evidence the scholar would use to define it as one of your religions. (Note: This question is not asking you to affirm anything as a religion for you. It is only asking you to identify what someone who is trained in this class could argue functions as a religion in your life.)

Q2.2: Explain 3-4 ways you think about “religion” differently now that you’ve taken this course. (It could be religion as it applies to your own life or other people’s lives or both.) State what each of these 4 ways of thinking differently is, and then for each one, discuss a concrete example of something that you view differently compared to before you took the class. Finally, for each one, identify something from the course that encouraged your thinking to shift: a reading, an activity, a prep assignment, a class discussion — really anything from the course. Write at least 100 words on each of the 4 ways you think differently.

Q2.3: Imagine you have funding to do an in-depth study of 2 religions on our list (you’ll study them separately). Which 2 religions would you study and why? Also discuss 2-3 activities you would want to observe in each of these religions and/or tools you would want to analyze further (see below). For each of the two religions, write at least 100 words about why and what you would study about that religion.

Reminder — some of the main tools we’ve analyzed:

  • Authoritative people
  • Authoritative ideas
  • Authorized activities (which have various purposes)
  • Ways of distinguishing outsiders and insiders
  • Rules for becoming an insider
  • Rules for how to act when participants are outside the community
  • Organizational structure of the community, for example, how the community is organized, councils or associations or recognized sub-groups within the community, levels of leadership (again, this can only be things you didn’t already discuss in part 1)
  • The community’s mission, purpose, or goals
  • Emotionally intense experiences within the community
  • Special vocabulary/ways of talking
  • Superhuman beings or supernatural forces that are considered authoritative by the community
  • Texts or stories that have authority for the community
  • Places that have special importance or authority for the community
  • Objects that have special importance or use within the community
  • Art or music that expresses participants’ devotion

Write a Discussion with the following results: and suggestions with the following research question: Looking at Aristida stricta (Wiregrass) in different temperatures to measure the growth at a greenhouse.

Lab Report

Things to think about when using numbers, you can but the number, “4” unless it is in the beginning of a sentence spell it out “Four”

Research: Looking at Aristida stricta (Wiregrass) in different temperatures to measure the growth at a greenhouse

Introduction Information:

– start broad discussing climate change “climate change has resulted in a loss of biodiversity and address how that is a problem”

-discuss how astritida stricta is a native species

– use 3 of the following citations:

http://dx.doi.org/10.1098/rstb.2019.0104

https://doi.org/10.1046/j.1526-100X.2002.10107.x

https://www.jstor.org/stable/26613633

-however it is not clear why .. there is little evidence showing..

Create a methods section for the following information using the research question:

Research: Looking at Aristida stricta (Wiregrass) in different temperatures to measure the growth at a greenhouse

-Spring weather, natural sunlight

-Psuedo replication happened as we were not able to replicate the temperature in multiple places due to it being a green house and one side of the green house receiving afternoon sun and the other side receiving morning sun.

-The wiregrass that survived dirt was rinsed off, put in a paper bag and then kept for a week after 40 C.

-present tense can be used if describing something still happening

-Seeds were not used: potted plants were purchased in a necessary and they were separated with individual clumps

-Statistical analyses: chi squared,

-Wiregrass was plotted on 2/8 and ended on 4/5

– Fertilizer was applied after one week and the fertilizer was a standard water soluble plant food (20:20:20, ENVY(R), National Liquid Fertilizer, Bedford Park, IL) that was applied at a concentration that was 25% of that recommended for indoor plants

-starting height of plants ranged from 9-15

Four treatments (when listing out treatments 2×2 factorial experiment with 2 water conditions (50 ml and 100ml ) that were watered twice a week.

Temp               Water.      Alive      Dead

29                    100           6               30

29                    50b          7                29

24                    100          13             23

24                    50             5.              31

Temperature set at a minimum temperature was 17 C and maximum at 29 C,

Location: Greenhouse .. south side and north side of building …. Cool side (East) received a max of 24 C and the warm side max was 29 (West),

-minimum temperature on both sides was the same but the maximum was different

-plants were watered twice a week (Monday and Thursday) and watered with 50 mL

-plants were purchased at a native plant nursery, they were bought in half gallon plots, and separated into individual clumps

-give total sample size (144)

-plants were randomly assigned to positions in the green house (randomized in pairs) so that there was a high amount of water and lower amount of water was next to each other

-there is pseudo replication: not able to replicate the temperature in multiple places due to it being a green house and one side receiving afternoon sun and one side receiving morning sun

– a few things to remember for writing Methods: 1) the size of the pots (you can measure in greenhouse)

Results:

Temp               Water.      Alive      Dead

29                    100           6               30

29                    50b          7                29

24                    100          13             23

24                    50             5.              31

-reporting biomass with bar graph and with standard deviations

-reporting survival

Write a Discussion with the following results: and suggestions with the following research question:

Research: Looking at Aristida stricta (Wiregrass) in different temperatures to measure the growth at a greenhouse

The hypothesis was: We hypothesize that Wiregrass growth will be affected by temperature, with optimum growth occurring at a specific temperature range.

what did you find?

-biological explanations does the data agree or disagree with predictions or hypothesis? What do the trend or lack of thereof mean?

-relating results to what people has already

-how do the results compare to others?

-there was a trend towards higher survival

-consider alternative interpretations of the data

-wiregrass was not sensitive to the levels of water and temperature used in this expirements if we had more water or

-with huger survival, we might have been able to detect differences there could have been more dependable watering

-create an abstract!

-for discussion end by explaining why expirements like this are important

Other Notes:

  • A lot of evaporation in green house .. biological explanation “
  • Understand transpiration and plants are losing that water
  • Plants do worse at high temperatures and low water, cool

Create a hypothesis as well in introduction
