You would have read that Frederick Douglass was born a slave in an isolated Maryland plantation and then escaped. He traveled extensively in the North and abroad and became a prominent abolitionist. He counseled President Lincoln during the Civil War and influenced some of his decisions.

What enabled Frederick Douglass to escape from slavery? In answering this, you should include all the significant people, experiences, incidents and books that created a desire in him to escape and gave him the ability to do so. You should also explain HOW these factors influenced him. Once Douglass escaped he joined up with abolitionists in the North and became a prominent abolitionist. What role did he play in the abolitionist movement in the U.S. and abroad? You should also discuss his introduction to the world of abolitionists, his extensive work as an abolitionist at home and abroad, and his views on the purchase of his freedom. You should discuss his views on the Constitution. You should further include in your answer his views on the Civil War, on Abraham Lincoln, and his work in the Civil War.

Part 2: (2 pages minimum)

Listen or read the transcript of historian Eric Foner’s interview in the NPR program. What similarities do you see between Douglass’ experiences and the experiences that Professor Foner discussed. According to Foner what reasons did slaves give for wanting to escape? What estimate did Foner give for the number of slaves who escaped through New York city? What is Foner’s opinion on the importance of the Fugitive Slave Act? What is the source of the information in Foner’s book “Gateway to Freedom” and who found it?

How do you begin to function as a team?

You have received an RFP. Now what? How do you begin to function as a team? How do you begin with the right questions to start filling out the first section of the documents identified in this week’s Learning Resources? How will you and your team develop your game plan on the Team Project Planning Worksheet?

Considerable information gathering, clarification, and review must occur before agreeing to take on a program evaluation project. Your activities this week will help you focus on these initial steps. This week allows you to begin to think, as a team, about some of the issues that will be applicable for your proposal, the first part of which is due in Week 4.

Some of the challenges with getting started toward producing a proposal include being clear on what the stakeholders want and whether you can devise a plan that is worth your own time and effort. You will find that the whole-class Discussion forum this week and in future weeks will ask questions that you can consider individually for the class Discussion and then can incorporate back into your team’s discussions and planning for your own RFP.

Note: Your team assignment will be posted to you no later than Day 2 of this week.

Team Activities By Day 3

  • Verify that everyone has viewed the Audiopedia and Wedell videos in this week’s Learning Resources.
  • Verify that everyone has reviewed the Program Evaluation Proposal Template and the Team Project Planning Worksheet and noted which sections are due and when during the course. Consider how this and every week’s activities fit into completing sections of your Team Project Planning Worksheet and Program Evaluation Proposal Template.
  • Review your RFP and the documents identified in this week’s Learning Resources, especially the requirements for your first team proposal work product, to be submitted in Week 4.
    • Post the initial information you have from the RFP for your team’s evaluation project. Describe your individual observations and thoughts about the following issues for planning and preparing:
      • Who wants an evaluation?
      • What should be the focus of the evaluation?
      • Why is an evaluation wanted?
      • When is an evaluation wanted?
      • What resources are available to support an evaluation?
      • Explain what you know from the RFP. Explain what you need to discuss further as part of planning the proposal for the program evaluation. Continue to refine your ideas with your team members throughout the rest of the week.

Write a brief Article Review, which summarizes the main points of the article in various ways.

It will pertain to some element of the subject matter for that week, sometimes just one part, sometimes multiple parts. It will be your responsibility to read this article, analyze it, and then write a brief Article Review, which summarizes the main points of the article in various ways.
This will allow you to further the basic information taken from the textbook and learn how the science of this field is pushing the limits of the practical management tools and technologies at work in the real world.
Article Reviews will be due Saturday each week. This assignment should be able to be completed within the 1,000 to 1,500-word count range.

What are the benefits and the best approach to teaching these concepts.

For this assignment, prepare a PowerPoint to present to your colleagues at your school, work setting, community center about cultural concepts that you have just learned about or are being re-enforced or revisited. Your PowerPoint should present at least four cultural concepts that you have identified in your readings. Detail your points. Additionally, present ideas on why teachers should address and teach students cultural concepts, what are the benefits and the best approach to teaching these concepts.
Incorporate appropriate animations, transitions, and graphics as well as “speaker notes” for each slide. The speaker notes may be comprised of brief paragraphs or bulleted lists.
Length: 12-15 slides (with a separate reference slide). Include 3-5 sources.
Notes Length: 100-150 words for each slide
Tip: You can get help using PowerPoint “Notes” through the “help” function of PowerPoint. If you save the presentation as a webpage, your notes automatically display. Your notes can fill the role of the speaker, giving your audience the background and details that a speaker would provide during a live presentation.
Your presentation should demonstrate thoughtful consideration of the ideas and concepts that are presented in the course and provide new thoughts and insights relating directly to this topic. Your presentation should reflect scholarly writing and current APA standards.

Annotated Bibliography Assignment Instructions

An annotated bibliography is a list of sources that includes current APA-formatted references to the peer-reviewed articles that you have compiled for a research assignment (all articles must be found through the Jerry Falwell Library or Google Scholar). A brief description, summary, and evaluation of the source must follow each reference. The purpose of an annotated bibliography is to provide the content, relevance, and quality of the sources. Each annotation must be less than 1 page.

You will provide an Annotated Bibliography of five peer-reviewed references that are relevant to your Research Proposal Paper Assignment.  At least 2 of the 5 articles must have been published in the past 5 years; all articles must not be older than 10 years.

This assignment must be in current APA format with a title page, abstract, and references. Each reference must include a summary, analysis, and reflection. Do not include books, book reviews, dissertations, websites, blogs, etc.

You must include the following for each reference in your annotated bibliography:

  • A brief description and summary of the article: Include the population, sampling method, at least one assessment instrument used, research question (at least 1), and research design. (For example: Harrichand and Knight used a convenience sample of graduate students, they surveyed the students using the Trait Emotional Intelligence Questionnaire Short Form (TEIQue-SF) and the Counselor Burnout Inventory (CBI), and their research design was correlational.)
  • An evaluation of the source in light of your topic: Indicate how the information is relevant to your research. (For example: This research illustrates that as trait-based emotional intelligence increases, counselor burnout decreases; this helps to make a case for the development of an emotional intelligence training program).
  • Answers to the following key prompts:
    • Who is the author and how are they qualified (for first credited author only)? (For example: Dr. Stacey Lilley is a licensed professional counselor and Director of the Clinical Mental Health Counseling program at Liberty University; she is an Assistant Professor of Counseling and sees clients at Piedmont Psychiatric.)
    • Critique at least 1 assessment used: How is the assessment psychometrically sound? Make sure to highlight the details of the properties. (For example: The TEIQue-SF was used and the reliability was established via the test-retest procedure and was R=.89 which is considered…)
    • Include a brief discussion of implications: Discussion in terms of how this article is relevant to establishing a need for your emerging research question/research study. (For example: Harrichand, Knight & Captari (2017) indicate that emotional intelligence trainings should be developed and assessed to see if participation can help increase Emotional intelligence (EI) and decrease counselor burnout. Thus my research question is examining whether counseling students EI increases after participation…)
