There is an abundance of information regarding characteristics of decision making and how a leader needs to possess strong decision-making skills. The following are two beliefs (e.g., research, anecdotal) about decision making: (a) decision making is a skill developed through practice that the more you perfectly rehearse it, the better you become at it; and (b) decision making reflects your basic intellectual aptitude, meaning the better your cognitive experiences, the better your decision making.
Those who feel it is an acquired skill have the ability to set higher expectations and good problem-solving strategies for themselves. On the other hand, those who thought it was either you have it or not philosophy, lost confidence in themselves and had many challenges when making decisions.
For this discussion, please explain in first person, with no references and no direct quotes, which belief is better than the other is, or do you feel you need both of these beliefs? In addition, explain what has helped you become a better decision maker either personally and/or professionally.

Elevator Pitch Activity-This will be presented in the virtual classroom this week.

Create of a 2-3 minute elevator pitch that you can use to advocate and bring awareness to the benefits of social-emotional learning and a positive school culture and climate. The goal is to explain to others how social-emotional learning and a positive culture and climate supports academic success and addresses behavioral needs in children within your respective schools/districts. Key highlights of your short pitch should inform and educate colleagues, school administrators, and school board members by discussing some of the following:

-Critical elements that comprise social-emotional learning and positive school culture and climate

-Resources for improving school culture and climate and implementing social-emotional learning interventions

-The relationship between SEL and positive school culture and climate to prevention of bullying, related forms of victimization and mental health issues

–Social-emotional learning and school culture and climate as the key to improving teachers’ effectiveness and a school’s academic success rates

Design your elevator pitch as a tool you can use to present your passion and knowledge for social-emotional learning to leadership and administration in your school/district. The more specific you are to your own professional environment the more you’ll be prepared to present your ideas in both formal and informal settings. For this reason, part of the process of creating your elevator pitch involves carefully thinking about whom you would ultimately need to present your ideas to (such as administrators, other teachers, students, parents, other stakeholders, etc.)

1. Write your original pitch in the first-person and include school name/info as you would deliver it (e.g., “We both know that we need SEL here at Baldwin Middle School for the following reasons…”)

2. Identify who your audience is. Time yourself reading your pitch, so you know it can be delivered in 2-3 minutes

3. In addition to creating your pitch, write a reflection on the process of developing your elevator pitch. Was it challenging, how will you used it, would you feel confident delivering it, etc.?

In this paper you are given the task of reporting on Egyptian culture during the period of the “New Kingdom”, taking place roughly between 1550 and 712 BCE. Types of things you will be discussing are as follows:
“write an overview of its main characteristics: what time in history it flourished during; what geographical region it covered; what was its capital or most important city/cities or centers; how was it organized politically and ruled; what were its main beliefs and/or religion; what were its main occupations/type of work; what was new and important about this culture – what was its significance or what did it contribute; did it influence or dominate other societies/cultures of the time; what were its main art and architecture forms – did it introduce a new or a distinctive type of art?”
You also must find an artwork from the time period your reporting on and discuss it’s significance or simply put, what it symbolized.
Lucky (or not so lucky) for you, I’ve already done some research to find an art work and a time period that would be easy to find facts about.
Your artwork is the “King Tut Death Mask” which was the ceremonial mask used to cover King Tut’s face during his funeral. This gives you a time period of roughly 1332 to 1323 BCE to report on.
You have to include a picture of the artwork in the paper, so just tack it on the end somewhere.
Four sources are required for this paper, and they must all be online. Wikipedia is PERMITTED, so go crazy.
Remember, you don’t want it to sound like your just listing facts. Coherency and elegance is the name of the game, and if you can execute and get me an A.. you best damn believe that some bonus cash is coming your way.
