What this means is to find what your company does well, what is its selling point to consumers? For Nike is it how its shoes are manufactured? Probably not, like we discussed the manufacturing technology is not rare nor is it inimitable. Rather Nike provides superior design and has a strong brand reputation. Apple has a sophisticated R&D capabilities that has allowed it to create innovative products. Put simply, ask yourself what is the core value proposition that this firm is providing to customers?
