What is the responsibility of a Crime Scene Command Center?

Forensic science begins at the crime scene. Based on the Locard principle, even the actions of the Crime Scene Investigator (CSI) may be destructive to evidence found at the scene. It is imperative that the actions of the CSI mitigate damaging the evidence as much as possible during collection, field processing, and packaging of the items seized as evidence. Obtaining the evidence as close to its original condition when found should be the goal of the CSI.

Discuss the following in your main post:

1. What is the responsibility of a Crime Scene Command Center? Who mans the center?
2. What is the best procedure to follow when a nighttime crime scene is too dark to search properly? What steps should an investigator take if circumstances do not permit this procedure?
3. The third walkthrough of the crime scene is considered the final survey of the crime scene. Who does the third walkthrough/final survey, and what are they looking for?

What are the benefits of obtaining an AND as a foundation for practice as a registered nurse?

A high school student is questioning his career choice and asks you which degree in nursing he/she should pursue as an initial degree, an associate degree in nursing (ADN) or a bachelor of science in nursing (BSN). He/She heard that graduates from both programs take the same NCLEX-RN exam to be licensed to practice nursing.

  1. What would you tell the student and why?
  2. What are the benefits of obtaining a BSN as a foundation for practice as a registered nurse?
  3. What are the benefits of obtaining an AND as a foundation for practice as a registered nurse?

What Is the Effect of Confirmation Bias?

In psychology and cognitive science, confirmation bias is a tendency to search for or interpret information in a way that confirms one’s preconceptions, leading to statistical errors.

Slide 2 What Is the Effect of Confirmation Bias? A tendency to search for or interpret information in a way that confirms one’s preconceptions, leading to statistical errors

  • Decision makers actively seek out and give more credence to evidence supportive of their own hypothesis.

– Evidence that could disconfirm their hypothesis is ignored and/or devalued. Decision makers have been shown to actively seek out and assign more weight to evidence that confirms their hypothesis and ignore or devalue evidence that could disconfirm their hypothesis.

Slide 3 Evidence

  • Confirmation bias occurs from the direct influence or desire on beliefs. – People want a certain idea to be true.
  • People will believe it is true. – “wishful thinking”
  • Errors from confirmation bias halt the gathering of information, as what’s been collected already confirms the views they would like to be true.
  • Confirmation bias indicates humans’ inability to objectively perceive circumstances. – Possibility to become a prisoner of one’s own assumptions In other words, confirmation bias occurs from the direct influence of desire on beliefs. When people would like a certain idea or concept to be true, they end up believing it to be true, which is wishful thinking. This error leads people to stop gathering information when the evidence gathered so far confirms the views or prejudices they would like to be true. Confirmation bias suggests that we don’t perceive circumstances objectively. We pick out those bits of data that make us feel good because they confirm our prejudices. Thus, we may become prisoners of our own assumptions.

Determine (based on the sketches) your suggested plans for searching the crime scene(s) in this scenario.

The reason a crime scene search is conducted is to establish the parameters of the crime being investigated and to identify and seize evidence at the scene that will connect the suspect(s) and victim(s) to the scene. It will establish linkage between evidence items and their associative value to each other. It will help identify what actions occurred at the crime scene during the commission of the offense(s). It will also identify items that are missing from the scene or items that are in the crime scene that should not be there. The crime scene process helps identify the methods used (modus operandi) at the scene by the offender(s).

For the purpose of this assignment, you are an investigator on your way to a murder crime scene. Research the following points, and write a 4 pages paper fully explaining each point:

A. The new Crime Scene Investigator assigned to work for you has never processed a homicide scene before. While en route to the scene, you discuss with your new partner the details you were given by the dispatcher. You discuss methods of crime scene searching with each other.
B. You have been provided 2 crime scene sketches. Click here for interior and here for exterior. Determine (based on the sketches) your suggested plans for searching the crime scene(s) in this scenario.
a. Based on the sketches, signify the areas to be searched and the evidence that might be associated with this crime scene.
b. If you had other personnel available to assist you and your new partner, what directives and assignments would you provide them with to assist in your crime scene search process?

Write a research paper regarding an actual organization of your choice that is either contemplating using and/or has already implemented the use of a team-based approach to increase productivity and reduce costs. What training issues would the organization be likely to face? How could the organization address these issues utilizing accepted HRD practices? Be sure to conduct research into similar organizations (i.e., benchmark against similar organizations) to uncover the specific areas that might be relevant to your chosen organization and their training needs.
