This journal entry requires you to synthesize information from our readings and video lectures in order to articulate a biblical basis for global engagement and to analyze general aspects of culture and society as it relates to global engagement. In your entry this week you must address following:

1. Based on what you have learned thus far, identify and explain the characteristics of a cross-cultural worker.
2. Discuss the role of the cross-cultural worker in empowering local believers and supporting local churches or church planting movements. Focus your answer on Western missionaries working in contexts outside of the United States.

Instructions

The movie Concussion, based on the discoveries and research by Nigerian doctor, Bennet Omalu, generated controversy by suggesting that the game of football, along with other sports, promoted serious physical and even life-threatening injuries to players. A barrage of news articles, texts, and documentaries posed the following question: “Are Sports Becoming Too Dangerous?”

For this final research paper, follow these steps:

  • Choose a sport (boxing, ice-skating, football, rugby, et al), and research 10 to 15 sources generating the pros and cons of the sport.
  • In your first two pagesof writing, create a case for the benefits of this sport. (Keep your personal feelings removed from these first two pages. Only submit the evidence based on your research and carefully document that evidence through in-text (parenthetical) citations.
  • In pages three and four, create a case for the dangers of this sport. This writing is not based on personal observation, but on your well-documented evidence.
  • In pages five and sixshould be a summation of the conclusions that you were able to surmise based on the research.
  • You may include graphs and figures to enhance the position of your essay. These would be inserted as an appendixafter your essay and before your works cited page.

GENERAL INSTRUCTIONS
Upon completing the weekly reading from Everyday Bible Study or Courageous Faith, you will be well equipped to respond to the provided prompt with a thread and 2 replies. Your thread and replies should demonstrate an understanding of the main ideas presented in the corresponding chapters of assigned textbook reading. Additionally, both your thread and response posts will illustrate your ability to summarize critical chapter elements in a clear and concise manner. There are three discussion board forums in our course and each forum is completed in 2 parts over the course of 2 modules/weeks:
• Discussion Board Assignment One – Weeks 1 and 2 (assigned chapters from Everyday Bible Study).
• Discussion Board Assignment Two – Weeks 4 and 5 (assigned chapters from Everyday Bible Study).
• Discussion Board Assignment Three – Weeks 7 and 8 (selected chapters from Courageous Faith).

In the first module/week of the forum, you will create a thread that directly addresses the prompt provided by the instructor. In the subsequent module/week, you will respond with meaningful replies to at least 2 classmates’ threads. The thread modules/weeks are 1, 4, and 7. The response post modules/weeks are weeks 2, 5, and 8.
