Write a document that provides information that an externalaudience can use to inform a decision.

Writing Assignment #4White Paperfor an External AudienceSummary of the Assignment:•Task:In this paper, you will write a document that provides information that an external audience can use to inform a decision. We have read various white papers in the class this semester.White papers can be any one of the following types:otechnical papersobusiness benefit papersoadvocacy papersohybrid technical/business papersThe CANRIGHT document that is provided in the class in LEO describesall four of these types of white papers. •Length:1200-1600 words•Graphics: at least threegraphics, two of which have to be original•Formatin Citing and Listing Sources:APA•Number and Sources:at least fivesources, at least one of which has to be obtained through OneSearchBrief Descriptionof the White Paper:In preparing for this assignment, you will want to review the following video:“White Papers: An Introduction to the Genre and Its Expectations,” from the Purdue OWLYou may take any of the following approaches:•a general white paper to an external audience–written to individuals in a particular industry or field of study, but not an organization you are a part of. The white paper could address a problem you are attempting to solve in the organization or to inform an external audience about a relevant trend.•a white paper promoting a new product or service to potential customers. This is an example of a white paper to an external audience, but it features different rhetorical considerations than the typical white paper written to an external audience does. Both options are discussed in the Purdue OWL video mentioned above.

Please note:You will not be writinga white paper to your boss or to superiors in the company for which you work. That type of paper would be an internal white paper. If you take WRTG 394, you can write thattype of paper. For WRTG 393, we ask for a white paper to an external audience.Strategies to Consider for the White Paper:Please follow these guidelines:•have a focused topic. Please see the sample white papers from previous students for examples of how previous topics have been developed for this paper.•write to a reasonably focused and identified audienceoA white paper to an external audiencecan have a broad audience or a narrow audience. ▪For example, if you do not work for a hair salon and you write a white paper promoting a new billing system for hair salons, the audience will probably be the various hair salons in your neighborhood.oA white paper that promotesa product or service to potential customerscould have a fairly broad audience. ▪For example, a white paper promoting a new taxi service in your neighborhood has, theoretically, all residents in the neighborhood as a potential audience.•integrate thorough research•do not directly tell the audience what action it should take. Rather, offer background informationthat the audience can use to make a decision. The Purdue OWL video mentions this principle. This is one reason the video refers to the white paper as a backgrounder report.Continue to the next page

How to Organize the White Paper:Please include the following sections in your white paper:•Executive Summary•Introduction•Previous Approaches•New Findings•Conclusion•ReferencesIn the Executive Summary, summarize your research and your purpose. The executive summary should be astand-alone document. It should be written in such a way that a busy executive could read the executive summary and know exactly what the paper is about without reading the rest of the paper. In the Introduction, you lay the groundwork for your readers for the details that will be introduced in the white paper. If you need to define any terms, you will do so here. You might share an anecdote or illustration to describe why this topic is important. In the Previous Approachessection, you will describe theapproaches or strategies that have been previously used or are currently used on the topic. For example, if your white paper is being written to advertise a new taxi service in your area, you might review what transportation services are provided now. You could show the challenges or problems that the current services involve. In this section of the white paper, your use of sources will be very important. You should integrate research to show that the problems you have identified exist. In the New Findingssection, you present perhaps the most important information in the paper. In this section, you will describe the findings of your research and relate these findings to the purpose of your report. You will not only provide data and research, but you will also explain the data and research and why it is relevant to your report’s topic. For example, if your white paper is being written to advertise a new taxi service in your area, you might review what transportation services are provided now and show why the new taxi service fills a need that the current set of transportation services does not fill or solves a problem that the current set of transportation services does not solve. You will provide data and evidence for why the new taxi service has promise in solving the problems you have identified. In this section of the white paper, your use of sources will be very important as well. You should integrate research to show that the problems you have identified will be solved by your new approach. In the Conclusionsection, you review what your research shows in light of the previous approaches used. You will not tell the audience what steps to take next. However, you will summarize what your findings articulate.

In the References, you will list your sources that you cited in the paper. You will list them in APA format. Please note that the lectures on white papers that you have viewed and examples of white papers you may have read may not have used APA format. You will be using APA format in this assignment. You are required to have at least five sources for your paper. In addition, at least one of them is to have been acquired through UMGC Library OneSearch. Primary sources will be very beneficial for the paper. For example, if your white paper is being written to advertise a new taxi service in your area, you might interview some local residents about the problems they have with the current transportation services in the area. The information in such interviews would be persuasive research to integrate into your white paper.

Do advancements in technology pose any direct and/or indirect threats to the global environment?

As addressed in the readings, technology has the potential to both solve global social problems and make them worse. For example, technological devices that can interact with the environment have the potential to reduce world hunger by helping to increase food production in developing countries. However, some technological advancements—such as weapons of war and automated assembly lines—can threaten life through armed conflict, and pollution of the environment can increase poverty by eliminating jobs.

Do advancements in technology pose any direct and/or indirect threats to the global environment? Choose one advancement and provide two examples of direct or indirect threats in your explanation.

Outline how you understand public relations, drawing on this week’s readings and learning activities.

The authors of this week’s readings argue that thinking of public relations as a promotional industry enables a more nuanced and complex understanding of the ways public relations produces and circulates meaning, and one which – unlike Grunig and Hunt’s four models – includes persuasion and propaganda. Outline how you understand public relations, drawing on this week’s readings and learning activities. You also might like to consider if your understanding of public relations has changed.

What do you think was the most important cause(s) of the Cold War?

Instructions: You must answer ALL of the following questions.  Each answer should be at least 1 paragraph (4 to 5 sentences). Please use your own words – plagiarism will result in failing the exam.

1) World War I and World War II are events that are larger and more complex than any one individual or group of individuals. Yet in many ways the two wars are linked by one man, Adolf Hitler.  He fought in World War I, wrote Mein Kampf in the interwar years and ordered the invasion of Poland in 1939 which started World War II in Europe. Were the horrors of World War II a natural progression of history or do you think it would not have happened without a man named Adolf Hitler?

2) Osama Bin Laden and Saddam Hussein both started off as American allies and both ended up American enemies.  How was Bin Laden initially a US ally and what events turned him into a US enemy?  How was Saddam Hussein initially a US ally and what events turned him into a US enemy?

3) What do you think was the most important cause(s) of the Cold War?  Why do you think the Soviet Union eventually lost to the United States and collapsed?

4) Based on our studies, do you think mankind can overcome the historic obstacles of war, famine, disease and climate change?  In other words, are you optimistic for our future? Are you pessimistic?  How have our studies influenced your perspective?

Using the South University Online Library or the Internet, research, analyze, and select at least two articles on sampling methodology used in public health research studies.

Sampling Methodology

It is incumbent on the researcher to clearly define the target population. Sometimes, the entire population is small enough to be included in the study. In other instances, the population is too large for the researcher to attempt to survey all of its members. Therefore, a small, but carefully chosen sample is used to represent the population. The sample is the actual group targeted either directly or indirectly and reflects the characteristics of the population from which it is drawn.

Using the South University Online Library or the Internet, research, analyze, and select at least two articles on sampling methodology used in public health research studies.

Note: The articles should not be more than two years old.

Based on the articles identified, create a 2- to 3-page Microsoft Word document that includes the following:

  1. A synopsis on the perspective of the sampling methodology used in your selected articles related to public health research studies.
  2. Your opinion on whether the sampling method used in each of your chosen articles is appropriate for its target population. Justify your response.
  3. An explanation of the potential advantages and disadvantages of the sampling plan used in your selected articles.

Explain why it is important to address your selected public health issue in your community.

Survey Research

Survey research is a common method to collect data in a research project.

Using the Internet, select a public health issue or topic you feel needs to be addressed in your community. Based on your research, respond to the following regarding the public health issue you selected:

Explain why it is important to address your selected public health issue in your community.
Define the purpose statement for the public health issue or topic you feel needs to be addressed in your community.
Develop at least two research questions you would like to answer as a result of your research.
Design a survey that could be used to measure:
The dependent variable (also known as a response variable)
The independent variable (typically the variable that is manipulated by the researcher)
Explain or predict the dependent variable you will seek to measure based on your research questions.
Explain how each question relates to the variables defined.
use researches within the last 5 years.

Demonstrate your valuation strengths in the term paper by determining whether the business you are studying is fairly-valued, over-valued, or under-valued.

You will demonstrate your valuation strengths in the term paper by determining whether the business you are studying is fairly-valued, over-valued, or under-valued. If it is a publicly-traded entity, make a buy, sell, or hold recommendation on the stock. If it is a private entity, you may evaluate the company from the perspective as to how you perceive it would be valued as a publicly traded firm.
1) The first criterion is financial analysis, including ratio analysis and risk analysis. Are you evaluating this company from a macro-economic or big-picture perspective in which you look at broad-based economic and industry trends in relation to how the company will capitalize on those trends OR are you examining the company from an operating / on-ground perspective and its individual business prospects and financial outlook (with less importance accorded to macro-trends)? Is it a high risk, low risk or medium risk situation? For example, a company that focuses on growth and reinvests all its profits into the core business typifies a growing, risk-taking enterprise. An example of a conservative operation is a company that generates surplus cash [pays a dividend if publicly traded] and is noted for stable, steady growth
2) The second criterion is qualitative research. For example, determine if there is a future for the new product the company is proposing. What is the management style of the company?
3) The third criterion is financial research. You’ll need to find any research about the industry your company is in from analyst recommendations found in Value Line, Dun & Bradstreet, Morningstar, etc. If you studying a private business entity, then analyst reports on publicly traded comparable firms may provide an applicable standard of comparison by which you are able to arrive at your valuation conclusion.
4) The executive summary should begin with the valuation conclusion. Is it fairly valued, overvalued, or under-valued? [If publicly traded, then you must write a buy, hold or sell recommendation.] The rest of the paper should explain the reason for your recommendation. A table of contents may also be included if the report is lengthy or has multiple sections and subheadings.
5) Calculations and support documentation should be included in the appendix, but relevant statistical support (i.e., bottom line figures such as rates of return, valuation, and so forth) should also be included in the body of the text.
