The student will research a current event, in the news or elsewhere, about childcare in Canada. After reading, the student will write a summary report of the article, and then give an educated opinion about the article.
1.Find a current news report, newspaper or magazine article, online report (written within the past month). The article needs to be about child safety, children’s health, or nutrition. The article should be focused on Infants, Toddlers, Preschool Age, or Children with Special Needs.

Students will develop 2 written responses to a recent news article on drug use (might be from a magazine, journal, online news or newspaper). In the first (750 words) they present their opinion, substantiate this by using the evidence presented in the course material and from their own supplementary research. Evidence is important – even if you don’t agree with it.

The Conversation is a really good place to go to read the type of response we are looking for in this assessment task – they are generally 750 words and have evidence to support the view

You can write this in first person and it is different from most of the academic articles you will be writing for Uni assessments.
Secondly, students will then summarise their commentary as a 150-250 word letter for publication in a mainstream newspaper.

You will be required to submit both pieces and only the full 750 word version will require proper academic referencing. They can be submitted as one file. please include the original news item you are commenting on.

Please refer to the examples of newspapers and topics below which will help you complete this assessment. You are not limited to these examples but it is a good place to start. Other examples have been posted in the discussion forum at the end of weeks 1, 2 and 3.

You need to apply your knowledge and understanding of the principles of assessment to select three care needs. These should be person centred and show understanding of the person’s priorities.

Eg Pravin has a diabetic foot ulcer is NOT a care need. What is it about the foot ulcer that is affecting Pravin? What is the need that requires intervention?

For each care need identify 2 or 3 appropriate interventions

Use the care plan template provided to produce a plan of care. The plan should offer an evidence based rationale for each intervention. (LO1 LO4)

 

Produce an evidence-based report which further explores one of the planned interventions. This report should also consider the role of the wider health care team and the patient/service user in the provision of person-centred (personalised) care.

Smitheford Pharmaceuticals

Smitheford Pharmaceuticals was founded by a former officer in the Civil War, General Robert Smitheford, in 1878. He moved his family to Colorado Springs to aid in his wife’s tuberculosis condition. At the time, it was believed that the sunshine and high altitude had curative effects.

The company quickly grew and expanded. To improve the economies of several growing towns in Colorado, General Smitheford built additional manufacturing facilities in Pueblo, Grand Junction, Fort Collins, and Durango, Colorado.

Smitheford was an excellent leader, as demonstrated by his rapid rise in the Union Army. He used management incentives and was an early follower of Frederick Taylor on methods improvement and employee satisfaction. The company has since adopted total quality management (TQM) philosophies but has done a poor job of implementing these principles in manufacturing.

By the 1950s, Smitheford Pharmaceuticals grew to become the 6th-largest pharmaceutical firm in the United States. Expansion in manufacturing occurred in the 1970s and 1980s with operations in Canada, Puerto Rico, France, Japan, Mexico, and Brazil.

Many challenges are facing the industry today. NAFTA impacted some advantages that Canadian manufacturing might have had. Stricter FDA guidelines have made transportation of partially manufactured products more complicated; drug interactions, especially for the elderly, can seriously affect whether or not to release a new product, and manufacturing equipment has become more sophisticated, and with the advanced technology comes increase fixed costs.

You are a midlevel manager of production operations at Smitheford. You will need to look at several methods to improve efficiency and effectiveness for its area of responsibility. You will use quantitative and qualitative methods to make recommendations for the improvements.

I. Abstract (5pts)

Locate the Intuit Inc. website, retrieve the latest company’s annual report from that site, calculate specific ratios for the latest two fiscal years, and respond to a limited number of analysis questions.

Please note that this entails far more than finding precalculated ratios from a website such as Yahoo! Finance or Google Finance. If you desire, you can use such a site for a reasonableness check on the results of your calculations, but any such comparisons should not be part of your resulting paper. Also, you might not match exactly to their figures anyway because those may include quarterly updates.
• The paper should be three to four double-spaced pages (not counting the cover page and bibliography).
• The font size should be 12-point and the type can be Times New Roman, Verdana, or Arial.
• Your paper should be properly cited using APA referencing style. This means that citations should be in a bibliography and in the body of the paper wherever you refer to or directly quote any information or terms from other sources.
