Evaluate how to effectively lead and motivate teams in diverse public environments

Taxes are costs, and, therefore, changes in tax rates can affect consumer prices, project lives and the value of existing firms. Evaluate the change in taxation on the valuation of the project.

Taxes are costs, and, therefore, changes in tax rates can affect consumer prices, project lives and the value of existing firms. Evaluate the change in taxation on the valuation of the following project:
(see materials)

Assumptions: Tax depreciation is straight-line over three years. Pre-tax salvage value is 25 in year 3 and 50 if the asset is scrapped in year 2. Tax on salvage value is 40% of the difference between salvage value and book value of the investment. The cost of capital is 20%.

Verify that the information given above yields NPV = 0.

If you decide to terminate the project in year two (2) what would be the NPV of the project?

Suppose that the government now changes tax depreciation to allow a 100% write-off in year one (1). How does this affect your answers to parts a and b above?

Would it now make sense to terminate the project after two rather than three years?

How would your answers change if the corporate income tax were abolished entirely?

Explain what the time value of money is and why it is so important in the field of finance. What is the Weighted Average Cost of Capital (“WACC”). Explain its uses

Renewables plc a wind turbine company is planning to set up wind turbines around the UK. The investment is expected to have only a three year life because of competition and technological advances. The major cash flows of the project are as below:

Cash Flow Estimation $ 000s

Year 0                    Year 1                    Year 2                    Year 3

Customer Revenues                                       10,000                   14,000                   9,000

Operation Costs                                -3,000                    -6,000                    -4,000

Asset Investments           -7,000                                                                                    1,000

Government Taxes          0                              -4,122.47              -5,095.84              -1,065.22

The finance director has decided to raise capital using both debt and equity. The company would like to maintain the market value ratios of debt and equity at 25:75. If this is done, equity required rate will be 16% and for debt it will be 12%.

1) Explain what the time value of money is and why it is so important in the field of finance.

2) What is the Weighted Average Cost of Capital (“WACC”). Explain its uses. Calculate the WACC if the project raises the funds using both debt and equity.

3) Make a recommendation to Renewables plc on the investment plan for the wind turbines project using a net present value approach.

4) What is the payback period for this project and what are the advantages & disadvantages of the payback period as an investment appraisal technique? Critically compare & contrast  the use of net present value as an investment appraisal and valuation tool and other tools or methods that can be used to assist in making both investment and corporate valuation decisions from a financial perspective?

Discuss the implications of being a first generation college student. What are the challenges these students face vis-a-vis identity, culture, family obligations and pressures, feeling “othered” from fellow students on campus? How might students approach these challenges to move towards eventual academic and personal success? Utilizing the works of Castro and perhaps Rodriguez, coupled with an outside academic source, analyze the implications and approaches to being a first generation college student.
Suggestions for outside reading include essays on first generation student success rates, campus housing limitations for first generation students, the non-traditional college student in the classroom, programs designed and implemented to encourage first generation college student success, inclusivity culture on campus or lack thereof on college campuses.

Demonstrate how problem-posing approaches to education benefit the student and the classroom environment at large. In other words, why is Freire such a staunch advocate for the implementation of problem-posing education over the long utilized banking concept? What are the potential advantages to transitioning away from a banking concept and towards problemposing? In an education system struggling with maintaining student success (such as here in America) how could problem-posing curriculum lead to advancement in education? Utilizing Freire’s work coupled with an outside academic source, analyze the problem-posing educational theory and the implications of such an approach being implemented in the educational curriculum of struggling systems.
Suggestions for outside reading include essays on Finland’s educational system (currently ranked the most successful education system of industrialized countries), the Montessori method of education, which mirrors many of Freire’s tenets, or articles on contemporary career expectations/what interviewers are looking for in potential hires (the ability to readily problem solve).

Suggest why human authorization is required to create a production order, instead of allowing MRP to create a production order directly. Make sure your answer is at least 75 words, in clear, well-written English.

Production requests versus production authorizations:
Figure 6.16 on page 197 of the Magal & Word text shows the production process. In a typical manufacturing environment, most planned orders are created automatically by MRP (which the text refers to as “materials planning”), and then one or more persons will convert planned orders to production orders. MRP never creates production orders. We can think of planned orders as “requests” or “suggestions” as to what should be manufactured, and production orders as “authorizations” or “commitments” as to what will be manufactured.

Suggest why human authorization is required to create a production order, instead of allowing MRP to create a production order directly.
Make sure your answer is at least 75 words, in clear, well-written English.

Production requirements:
Suppose you are in the planning department for a bicycle manufacturer. The sales forecast for next week estimates that a volume of 90 bicycles will be sold. You currently have 25 bicycles in stock, and no other sales orders as of yet. Assuming that the forecast is reasonable, and assuming that you will be able to make all the bicycles you need, how many bicycles must you plan to make? If you have 32 tires in stock, and none already on order, how many tires will you have to purchase in order to be able to carry out the planned production? Show your calculations and explain your answer.

Make sure your answer is at least 75 words, in clear, well-written English.

You have been given the following fact pattern by Sofia Perez, one of the senior partners in your law firm. Ms. Perez would like you to prepare an opinion letter (for her signature) to Alison, explaining what her rights are, if any, to Kymberly’s estate.

You have been given the following fact pattern by Sofia Perez, one of the senior partners in your law firm.

The firm represents Alison Nielsen. Last month, Alison’s only child, Kymberly, was killed in a car accident. Kymberly, who was 18 at the time of her death, had been a famous child actor and earned several million dollars during her career. For a period of time, Alison served as Kymberly’s manager but after several disagreements over money, Kymberly applied to court at age 16 and had Alison’s parental rights terminated. At the time of her death, Kymberly was not speaking with her father, Phillip Nielsen. Phillip and Alison divorced when Kymberly was a child and neither remarried nor had other children. Kymberly had never been married and left no children and no will.

Ms. Perez would like you to prepare an opinion letter (for her signature) to Alison, explaining what her rights are, if any, to Kymberly’s estate.

XYZ Company is experiencing internal issues with ethics and leadership, and top management would like for you, as a member of the human resources management team, to research these issues. Then, provide a research paper to all management within the organization regarding ethics and leadership to remind them of the importance of ethics and ethical leadership on the organization. The presentation will need to include the following information:

Leadership’s role in ethical decision making, Ethics in a global economy (keep in mind they recently expanded operations to another country), Social responsibility, and Stakeholder relationships.
Then, discuss leadership traits and characteristics, including:
Charismatic and transformational leadership,
Leadership attitudes, behaviors, and styles as they relate to a positive ethical climate for the organization.
Incorporate appropriate animations, transitions, and graphics as well as “speaker notes” for each slide. The speaker notes may be comprised of brief paragraphs or bulleted lists.

After you have watched the Documentary film, Berkeley in the SixtiesLinks to an external site., find one policy area that you find interesting in the film and do a brief search to learn more about the policy.

1- What is the one specific policy you have selected after viewing the film? (You most probably need to do additional research to learn about what public policies were in fact passed)
2- Explain how and why the public policy emerged in the 1960s or 1970s?

Determine two leadership theories and two leadership styles that support the definition of a public leader. Provide a rationale for your response.
