Imagine it is halfway through the school semester, and you have a student in your class who struggles with the basic vocabulary and facts in the current science unit. The student will struggle with the next unit without mastery of the current unit. You have also noticed that the student will ask to go to see the school nurse multiple times each week, especially when it is time to work on the science unit.

Reflect on this scenario and consider how you can address the issues raised by the following questions:

Our textbook discusses one of the most famous psychological experiments of all time, conducted by Dr. Philip Zimbardo and his colleagues at Stanford University.  After reading about the experiment and exploring the website, answer the following:

1. Was it ethical to do the prison study in the way that Zimbardo conducted it? Why or why not? Explain your position substantively.

In responding to the above, keep in mind that morals and ethics aren’t the same thing. Morals are right vs. wrong behavior internal compasses that guide personal life decisions and are grounded in family beliefs, faith traditions, etc. Ethics are standards of behavior established by a professional organization, such as the American Psychological Association. You may have very strong feelings about whether the Zimbardo study was moral, but here we are discussing ethics.

2. How do the social psychology concepts of conformity and the power of the social situation that we are studying this week relate to what happened during the brief period of time that the prison study ran. Where in the description of how the study unfolded did we see evidence of these concepts?

The world is paying attention to the ongoing pandemic disease, coronavirus also known as COVID-19. Unlike other viruses such as SARS and MERS, COVID-19 is driving modern societies to the edge of the cliff. The World Health Organization (WHO) declared a Public Health Emergency of International Concern due to its impacts on varied fields. Several scholarly groups are concentrating on finding a truth connoting that the virus not only disturbs global health but also mortally disorder overall economies and politics both at domestic and international levels.

Although the technology industries are becoming more conspicuous to quarantined societies, the prospective indication after this outbreak denotes an economic plunge in IT stock markets. Since the government fortified to close the places where people need to be drawn closer, schools, companies, and public places, workers, students, and teachers start using the technology to contact each other and enrich their quarantined lives. On that account, technology companies like Zoom, Netflix, and Amazon have great alternation in their share price (BBC News). According to the graph, we can realize that the share price of Zoom has the largest increase between five month. However, this positive effect can bring negative changes after the pandemic. The quarantined life and lockdown are the reason why the consumption of these technologies is incredibly increased but after this, there is a tendency that people may not use them as often as now. Thus, they might face the tremendous loss of their finance because of reduced demand. For example, when this pandemic situation gets better, students and workers can go back to their normal life. Then, the consumption of the technology might be decreased. To prepare for that situation in domestic degrees, the governments need to support the companies for assuring workers’ leisure time. Also, for schools, they can help them to have a ‘smart class day’ in which the students and teachers have classes using the technology. For the international level, countries should have meetings virtually when they have an emergency or lack of time to meet in-person. If we prepare like these, we will be able to prevent the great recession from the technology industry.

Describe a recent challenging presentation of a sick child in your current clinical setting. Explore your feelings about the assessment and management of the patient requiring emergency care. Evaluate or make a judgement about what has happened.

The purpose of this assessment is to reflect on clinical learning related to an episode of care for a paediatric patient that presented to your facility. At times, nurses encounter events that they find clinically and professionally challenging. It is important to see these situations as opportunities that contribute to life-long learning and improvement in clinical practice. Reflection is a fundamental component of learning. It integrates the learning experience, the emotional context and the resultant changes in our clinical skills and professional practice. It also, enables us to evaluate the quality of care provided in our clinical setting.

In hospitalized psychiatric patients (Population of patients), how does the use of restraints (Intervention) compared to de-escalation techniques (Comparison) decrease aggression (Outcome) during hospitalization (Time)?

Restraints are currently used as a last resort measure when psychiatric patients are at severe risk of harm to themselves or others. Many procedures must be followed once a patient is restrained. Legal paperwork such as restriction of rights’ documents must be filed that explain what methods were used to restrain the patient (mechanical restraints, medication, or seclusion), and the criteria for restraining the patient.  Within fifteen minutes of a patient being restrained, an order must be obtained from the physician. A new treatment plan must be initiated that declares the patient as an imminent risk of harm to self or others. While a patient is restrained, 15-minute documentation is required. During 15 minute checks, patients must be assessed for comfort, circulation, neurological state, skin integrity, and behaviors. Patients must be offered/provided toileting, comfort measures, education, food, and readiness for discontinuation. Within an hour of a patient being restrained, a physician must perform a “face-to-face” assessment of the patient to ensure the patient is in good shape.

Restraints should be discontinued as soon as patients resolve behaviors and no longer presents as harm to themselves or others. Within twenty-four hours of a patients’ restraints being discontinued, mental health staff provides patients with a survey about their restraint experience to assess what measures could have been taken to improve their restraint experience. All staff that participated in restraining the patients attend a debriefing session. During that meeting, they discuss preventative measures to avoid restraining patients in the future. Many patients view being restrained as a traumatic experience. Using de-escalation techniques when patients present with aggressive behaviors will help avoid restraining patients.

De-Escalation is defined as “talking with an angry or agitated service user in such a way that violence is averted and the person regains a sense of calm and self‐control” (Spencer & Johnson, 2016; p.2). In the mental healthcare sector, various talk-down and de-escalation techniques are employed in diffusing the aggressive behavior by the patient. Some recognized de-escalation techniques include verbal and non-verbal strategies and stature. The verbal techniques include the use of a calming tone, which may guide the patient to a calmer personal space. The non-verbal techniques include personal safety, self-awareness, eye contact, and an appropriate body stance. In practice, however, there is quite scanty scientific backing supporting the use of these de-escalation techniques in the mental health sector (Price & Baker, 2012; Spencer & Johnson, 2016).

The Critical Research Essay is not be an “add-on” project where you will simply write more pages onto a previous topic paper. Rather, this project requires a complete overhaul approach that may use a basic thematic element of a previous paper, but develops an entirely different direction and structure. The demand for children’s products is significantly high in all countries, and different approaches have been implemented to help parents get these products within their reach and at affordable prices (Fields D., & Fields A., 2004). However, the results were fruitless since some of the businesses did not know how to market their businesses. Therefore, for the growth of the industry, you will need to identify your target population preferences, tastes, and choices. After determining your target customers, ask yourself, what are the customer’s preferences? Do your products solve their problem? How does the business impact the surrounding populations? And what benefits do you generate?
