Based on your reading of the article “Leading Change” by John Kotter (1995), discuss three ideas, suggestions, or sections of the article that you found interesting.

Discussion post and response

Part 1(a) This discussion post will need to be at least 400 words. With in text citations. Should use at least 2 references that are based in the United States.

Based on your reading of the article “Leading Change” by John Kotter (1995), discuss three ideas, suggestions, or sections of the article that you found interesting.

For example, in Error 1, Kotter argues that it is extremely difficult to get people to change because it means they must move out of their comfortable routines and into the unknown. Leaders often fail to create a great enough sense of urgency around the change to make people want to do things differently. If your organization has gone through a change recently, then you might want to discuss whether or not a “sense of urgency” was established. What was the response?

Part 2 (a) Should be at least 250 words with in text citations. Should also be at least 2 references that are based in the United States and websites. This is a discussion post response. It should extend on to what was said.

Has vaccination made differences in inflation rates across the states in the U.S. (or the countries in the world)? Has the ongoing US-China antagonism affected the bilateral trades between these two countries?

Discussion 5

The writing involves the following five parts:

  • Introduction (what is the hypothesis you want to test; what is the population data you have in mind)
  • data collection (what your sample data is and from where you collect them; on what basis you are convinced the sample is random)
  • data summary and visualization (the basic summary statistics of your data and a visualization of the main feature of the data)
  • hypothesis testing (a statistical statement of the hypothesis you want to test and the test statistics that you have computed)
  • conclusion (what you can conclude concerning your hypothesis based on your test statistics)

You can choose your favorite statistical software to conduct the project. Write a 1.5-page single spaced memo of the data project detailing the above four parts and to submit the data file along with the memo.

Examples topics:

  1. Has vaccination made differences in inflation rates across the states in the U.S. (or the countries in the world)?
  2. Has the ongoing US-China antagonism affected the bilateral trades between these two countries?
  3. Is the same kind of bagels priced higher in Walmart than in Costco?

Who are the stakeholders in early childhood and what are their roles?

533 Discussion

When students write in journals, they are not writing to perform; instead, they are writing to think on paper about new ideas they are encountering. Journals provide a great opportunity for students to learn by writing, and they encourage students to be reflective. Each week a journal prompt will be provided that is based on the topic of the week. The journal is a way to demonstrate rigorous engagement with the material in a less academic-feeling format. Each one should be an approximately 1-2 page entry.

Who are the stakeholders in early childhood and what are their roles?

Pick two personal finance topics (including but not limited to: credit cards, student loans, budgeting, saving, banking, and investment, etc.). Explain the role they play in your financial and general well-being. Explain why they are important for you to have a successful college experience and beyond.

Financial literacy for college students/young adults

Today’s college students are bombarded with ads, commercials and mailings telling us that we need to spend money to be happy. At the same time, many of us come to college very ill-equipped to handle our finances. Financial literacy, defined as “the ability to use knowledge and skills to manage one’s financial resources effectively for lifetime financial security,” is important in our money matters as well as academic performance.

Based on your understanding of financial literacy and experience (or lack thereof) of personal finance,
1) Pick two personal finance topics (including but not limited to: credit cards, student loans, budgeting, saving, banking, and investment, etc.);
2) Explain the role they play in your financial and general well-being;
3) Explain why they are important for you to have a successful college experience and beyond.

What type of formatting is used for this communication channel? What types of resources will you use to review your business communication to ensure it is grammatically correct before finalizing it for delivery to the intended audience?

Summerative Questions

In the workplace, you will often make decisions about communication as well as develop and deliver different types of professional communications. You will need to be able to assess the effect of social media and other digital technologies on business communication. In addition, you will need to be able to incorporate technology into your professional communication, using best practices, to create different communication artifacts. For this assessment, you will develop responses to professional business scenarios, which will demonstrate your ability to apply best practices for composing, revising, and delivering professional communication artifacts.

Preparation

Select 3 of the following scenarios, which were provided in Week 4:

  • Solicitation for a Charity: You are writing a solicitation for a donation to a charity for animal rescue in your local area. Donations have been down in recent times due to issues such as COVID and inflation. The rescue organization is overflowing with surrendered animals and needs money to feed and house them while trying to find them new homes. Your goal is to engage your reader enough to read through your solicitation and to respond with some money to help the animal rescue.
  • Employee Improvement Request: You are the manager of an employee at a delivery service who is not meeting job requirement expectations. Employee J has been showing up late for work, missing deliveries, and recently received a traffic citation. Your goal is to motivate the employee to make a positive change in their work behavior. You and your employee do not work at the same location.
  • Complaint: You are writing to a company to complain about a shirt you ordered online that does not meet your needs. The design has started to peel off the shirt after one washing. You did not wear the item until after the return date had passed, so you didn’t notice the issue until recently. Your goal is to motivate the company to satisfy your request for a replacement or get your money back despite being against their normal policy.
  • Advertise Your Brand: You have just received your Personal Training and Zumba certifications and have been hired by a local gym that is part of a national corporation. You need to encourage gym members to attend your Zumba classes and hire you to do personal training. You think that providing information on the benefits of weight training and cardio exercise is a great way to build your following.
  • Circulate a Business Report: You have just completed a report about sales forecasts for your company’s products that you believe would be of great interest to not only your Sales Department manager, but also to other department leaders such as Manufacturing, Procurement, and Marketing, and even those in charge at the international corporate headquarters. You would like their buy-in to make some changes in corporate structure to meet the challenges that this increase in sales will present to the company.
  • Update Your Clients and Share Changes in Health Benefits Coverage: It’s time for the annual health coverage enrollment, and you manage a number of companies that purchase their health insurance through your insurance agency. You need to inform Human Resources at these companies that some coverages are no longer available, and there has been a price increase across the board. You believe that your insurance agency still offers a competitive package, and your goal is to retain as many of these companies as customers as you can.
  • Reply to a Job Ad: You have located an ad for a job that you want to apply for. You believe that your qualifications match those listed in the job ad. You need to show the employer that you are an excellent candidate for the job they are advertising.

Consider the following questions for each scenario you selected:

  • Who is the audience for the business communication?
  • What is the context for the business communication?
  • What type of formatting is used for this communication channel?
  • What types of resources will you use to review your business communication to ensure it is grammatically correct before finalizing it for delivery to the intended audience?

Bangalore Enterprise Blossoms

Rama Karaturi had the idea for his rose-growing business. When he searched the city of Bangalore, in India, without success, for a bouquet of roses for his wife’s birthday. The city was a rose-free zone, so he decided to start growing them himself. He had wanted to take decisions for himself for some time and he also wanted to earn much more than his current salary. In 1996, he opened two greenhouses growing just roses. He used his own savings so took a considerable risk, but his confidence in the growth of β€˜ο¬‚ower giving’ at times of major festivals encouraged other investors too. He sold the flowers in India, but his business also became one of the first in India to start exporting flowers on a large scale. Rama worked long hours to make his business a success. The business, called Katuri Networks, has grown at a tremendous rate, helped by Rama’s all-round business skills. He recently bought out a large rose grower in Kenya and his business is now the world’s largest cultivator of roses – and Rama achieved this in a little over ten years.

Questions

  1. Rama is an example of a β€˜Business Entrepreneur’. Explain what is meant by this term. [3]
  2. Explain any two problems Rama’s business might have experienced during the set-up stage. [4]

Part II

A mission statement is a brief description of why a company or organization exists. It tells the purpose of being. It explains what the company does, who it serves, and what differentiates it from competitors. It’s used to provide focus, direction, and inspiration to employees while it tells customers or clients what to expect from the business.

Mission statements vary widely from one company to another. One mission statement could be better than the other.

Questions

Q 3. Using the Internet, find and write the mission statements of three different organizations, (it can be Profit or Non-Profit Organizations).

Evaluate any one mission statement which you find best using the following questions. [5]

  • Is the statement easy to read? Mention the scope of the mission statement.
  • Does the statement define a business domain and explain why it is attractive?
  • Does the statement describe the company’s responsibility to its stakeholders?
  • Does the statement give a portrait of the company, capturing the culture of the organization?

Q 4. Which mission statement you find the best among the three? Why? Β [3]

Determine which orders havenβ€˜t yet shipped and the name of the customer who placed the order. Sort the results by the date on which the order was placed. Sort data by orderdate with most current date at the top.

Week 4 70 pts

This week assignment has a little of everything: Some CREATE TABLE statements with FOREIGN KEYS, ALTER TABLE, string functions (CONCAT, SUBSTR), UPDATES, copy tables, DISTINCT, WHERE, ORDER BY, and JOINS. It just gets more fun!

1. Write 3 create table statements to create the tables below. Include datatypes as listed and appropriate foreign and primary key syntax. Run your statements to make sure they work. The order you create your tables will make a difference. (10)
β€’ Yellow Key = Primary Key
β€’ Red filled Diamond = Foreign Key
β€’ Blue Filled Diamond = required field or not null
β€’ Blue unfilled Diamond = optional field or null

2. Determine which categories are represented in the current book inventory. List each category only once. (5)

3. List all customers who have been referred to the bookstore by another customer. List each customer’s firstname, lastname, and the number of the customer who made the referral. Do not use β€˜Where Referred is > 0’ (5)

4. Determine the length of data stored in the lastname field of the customers table. Make sure each different length value is displayed only once. Sort data in ASCENDING order(5)

5. Copy the books table. Call the new table New_books. Put all the books from the original books table into the new_books table. (5)

6. Add 10% to the cost of all books in the new_books table from the category Family Life. Actually, change the values in the database, not just select and display. (5)

7. Alter the newbooks table to include a column called Cat_isbn with data type char. (5)

8. Using string functions, write an update statement that add the following values to Cat_isbn column created in previous problem. CAT_ISBN should contain the first two characters from the category followed by the last 3 digits of the ISBN. Include a dash between the two values. (see picture below). (5)

9. Produce a list of all customers’ names in which the first letter of the first and last names is in uppercase and the rest are in lower case. You will need to nest string functions to make this work. MySQL doesn’t have a Proper string function like some languages. You will need to grab the last characters and make them lowercase and attach them to the first character which is already upper case. (5)

10. What books did author James Austin write? (Show isbn, title, author first and last name concatenated together into one column). (5)

11. Determine which orders havenβ€˜t yet shipped and the name of the customer who placed the order. Sort the results by the date on which the order was placed. Sort data by orderdate with most current date at the top. (5)

12. Write a query to show the isbn, title, pubdate and publisher name for all books in the family life category. (5)

13. Show me the customers from Florida and all the books they ordered. Display the columns as shown below and order the data by last name.. (5)
