How does the author capture the essence of the Southern/Appalachian experience? Discuss how place is an important part of the piece? What are the central themes of the piece, and how do those themes help to establish identity?

W4: Appalachia–the Step-Sibling of the South

During Weeks 3 and 4, we discussed the importance of place and the challenge of identity for Southern and Appalachian writers. Certainly, both of these issues manifest themselves in different ways for each author.

For this essay, discuss the short story or poem from our reading that most clearly represents and exemplifies the characteristics of Southern and/or Appalachian writing and focuses most on establishing identity.

As you research for this essay, consider the following questions:

• How does the author capture the essence of the Southern/Appalachian experience?

• Discuss how place is an important part of the piece?

• What are the central themes of the piece, and how do those themes help to establish identity?

Reminders and Format:

• 500-750 words (2-3 pages)

• MLA format

• Sources: ONE outside source is fine, but you MUST use the work in question. Also, please do not use the open web. Please use the APUS library to ensure the credibility of your sources.

• Avoid the use of first person (I, we, us) and second person (you). You MUST use at least one quote from the piece you are discussing.

Due: Assignments Tab at the end of Week #4

Value: 10% of your grade

Introduce the research topic and why it’s worth serving as a research topic. What was the problem you were setting out to explore? Why does the topic matter?

Information literacy

This assignment is a research paper in an essay format that demonstrates information literacy and includes an evidence-based argument. It is the culmination of your work on the Week 2 and Week 6 assignments. Assemble the following sections in a document:

Part 1: Introduction (1 paragraph)

Introduce the research topic and why it’s worth serving as a research topic. What was the problem you were setting out to explore? Why does the topic matter? The last thing to add is the most important part: your main argument. This is a one-sentence statement (Thesis Statement) that essentially seeks to answer the research question with an evidence-based position on the matter. It’s a claim that you can make based on the evidence you assembled in your research; the purpose of the rest of the paper is to explain and support that one position with evidence.

Part 2: Presentation of Three Perspectives (3 paragraphs)

This is the evidence. You want to convince the reader that your argument is supportable with good research, even if a reader might disagree with aspects of it. It helps to remember that it’s impossible to definitively “prove” the claim. The best you can offer is supporting evidence to show that your argument can hold weight and convince a reasonable person that it deserves analysis. Use of peer-reviewed sources the best way to demonstrate a rigorous degree of research and reliability.

Part 4: Conclusion and Reflections on Research (1-2 paragraphs)

In this section, offer any final remarks, observations, or insights on the topic. If there are areas that require further research, you can mention these and even chart out what research questions should naturally follow your work. Avoid summarizing or repeating the previous sections.

Now that you’ve finished your project, let’s take a minute to take stock of what you can take forward and to identify any lingering questions you have about research or information literacy. Add any final remarks on what you’ve learned about information literacy and research. What skills will you take forward into the next paper you write, or the next class?

Reference List

Provide complete references for all sources cited in the paper. Include sources from Week 2 and 6 Assignments. The citations should be Turabian/Chicago Author-Date style.

The assignment can be broken down into 2 distinct tasks as follows;

(Task 1)

Identify situations when the organisation (Annex A & B) may find it helpful to use the services of a consultant, explaining the benefits this approach offers to the organisation, and how a consultant can add value.

Relate the importance of the consultant understanding the client’s needs and overcoming potential barriers when initiating change.

This section must:

Explain the key phases in the consultancy cycle and the information you would expect to gain at each stage.

Discuss the strategies used to overcome the potential risks and challenges you expect to face during the consultancy intervention.

Word Count: 1000-2000 words

(Task 2)

You have now been tasked to lead your team in a Security Consultancy Project Intervention. The full brief concerning the intervention has been passed to you from the client account manager and can be seen at Annex D. In short, the client has requested a change management program to align a security conscious culture throughout the organisation.

The strategy for implementing the culture change will be decided on further client meetings. At this stage you are tasked with creating a brief for your team that analyses the consultancy life cycle that best suits the project outlined in Annex D and evidences the deliverables to be expected at each stage.

This section must include:

A detailed analysis of differing consultancy cycle methods and a reasoning for your chosen method in a security consultancy intervention context.

Discuss your project plan: how will it be controlled and delivered

What systems do you intend to put in place to analyse information and data and what practices will you implement to manage potential risks to project fulfilment.

Evaluate the tools and techniques available to you and your team when implementing an intervention and delivering a solution to the client

Your proposal for delivering a potential solution to the client

You will deliver this as a brief to your team, this can be as a written document, ppt with supplementary notes or other method (e.g. recorded presentation with accompanying handout) so long as it meets the above requirements.

How might this scenario play out or impact you in your role as a nurse practitioner?
Defend your position with legal, ethical, and professional evidence.
As part of your position, propose strategies and solutions for addressing the issues.
What other ethical issues does this case bring to light, if any?
Support your position with at least one scholarly source Be sure to cite the article you choose, use APA format, and include a title page and reference page.

Describe terms related to mechanical and structural factors in stress loading, riveted joints, and pressure vessels and their importance to aviation safety. Discuss failure modes related to an over-stressing in tension, compression, torsion, bending, etc.

Aircraft Flight Test Engineer

In Module 3, you will discover how various loads and stresses (e.g., torsion, compression, and bending) affect internal material strain. You will also learn about riveted joints and pressure vessels and how they may affect mechanical and structural factors in aviation safety.

Upon successful completion of this module, you will be able to:

  1. Describe terms related to mechanical and structural factors in stress loading (tension, compression, bending, and torsion), riveted joints, and pressure vessels and their importance to aviation safety.
  2. Discuss failure modes related to an over-stressing in tension, compression, torsion, bending, etc.

Assignment: (basically explaining to an intern the V-n or V-g diagram)

The purpose of this scenario-based activity is to provide a simulated ‘real-world’ example for you to demonstrate a particular action. This ‘stretches’ your thinking by allowing you to go beyond the readings and answering direct questions posed; rather, you ‘become’ an aviation professional solving real-life problems.

Remember the ‘flight envelope’ from Module 2? Well, now assume you are an Aircraft Flight Test Engineer at an aircraft manufacturer that makes Transport Category airplanes in the United States. This manufacturer has offered you the task to mentor an intern, participating in a cooperative arrangement with a local university, on important features of a flight envelope diagram (also known as a V-n or V-g diagram) and why these diagrams are vital for flight test pilots and future pilots for this new aircraft. You realize, because of the intern’s lack of experience, the first hurdle to overcome is to brief them on the significance of such a diagram and the warning of ‘danger areas’ provided in it. There are areas of the diagram that indicate regions of stalls and accelerated stalls and regions where possible structural damage may occur. You need to discuss aspects of these operational limitations and potential implications if the aircraft exceeds any of these flight parameters.

You have been tasked to brief this new intern on the operational flight limitations contained within the flight envelope diagram, so you start with a simple, generic V-n (V-g) diagram regulatory to introduce the topic to the intern. Choose your method of communicating this information; it can be either a short essay, a presentation, or a video. It may prove valuable to include a sample diagram with arrows or callouts to label the axes, regions, etc. Feel free to include your drawing/diagram as an attached photo or scanned image. Keep in mind that merely providing a diagram alone is insufficient; you must explain what each item/aspect could mean for a potential pilot.
