Define the 5 foundation cultural competencies and give a concrete example of how each applies to racial/ethnic, gender, and millennials. Briefly discuss how these foundation cultural competencies will create better relationships among the employees.

Cultural Competency

Scenario: You are a recent graduate working in an organization that has had a lot of baby boomers retire. There are still a few baby boomers working along with many Generation X employees. Millennials are about one-third of the organization’s employees. The millennials are very diverse racially and ethnically. There have been many generational and cultural misunderstandings and complaints. The complaints include millennials supervising older employees and older employees supervising millennials. All the generational groups complain that they don’t understand the other groups. You have been asked by the top executives to do a 3-5 page single-spaced report on how to create more effective cross-cultural teams. Once one is a supervisor or manager, he or she is managing teams. Effective teams are the key to effective organizations.

Summary: Summarize the cultural characteristics in chapter 5 and include some of the characteristics of millennials (from the first-week assignment). Focus on the behaviors and beliefs that hold some employees back in their careers. Bridging those cultural differences is key to developing employees and employees being seen as leadership material.

Analysis: Define the 5 foundation cultural competencies and give a concrete example of how each applies to racial/ethnic, gender, and millennials. Briefly discuss how these foundation cultural competencies will create better relationships among the employees. The foundation cultural competencies are used to develop professional relationships with other managers in the middle management ranks. At the executive level, the relationships are with other organizations and community and political groups.

Recommendations: describe 3 to 5 organizational changes that you would recommend to the top executives of your organization to create more effective cross-cultural and cross-generational teams using the five foundation cultural competencies. Develop a brief implementation plan for your recommendations.

CRI10002: Fundamentals of Criminology Assignment 3: Research Essay

Word/time limit: 2000 (+/- 10%)

Weighting: 40%

The research essay marks your debut as a junior criminologist. You will select one particular type of criminal offence and choose whichever criminology theories you have studied that can best explain it. The research essay requires you to conduct research about the chosen theories and offence using different academic sources, and to analyse this research to explain the cause(s) of your chosen criminal offence.

A research essay can seem like a daunting task. Break it down using the following steps.

  • homicide
  • assault
  • sexual assault
  • robbery
  • theft
  • arson
  • fraud
  • embezzlement
  • stalking
  • intimate partner violence
  • drug dealing
  • drug trafficking
  • terrorism
  • kidnapping
  • hacking
  • phishing
  • shoplifting
  • identity theft
  • money laundering
  • serial rape/homicide

Step 2: Research further and look back at your plan

Refer back to your plan and also the further research you have conducted about your offence type since you submitted Assignment 2B: Essay Plan. Look specifically at ideas/theories concerning
why the crime occurs (causation) with regard to a particular criminology theory that we have covered during the semester (e.g. strain theory, biological determinism).

Step 3: Select your theories

Select the crime causation theories that you think best explains why and how this offence occurs. Make sure you have some good notes and planning on how the theories can best be used to explain why and how the offence occurs.

Step 4: Write the body and introduction of your essay

In your essay, you are required to explain the links between your chosen offence and the crime causation theories that you have selected. Outline the reasons why you think that this is the best explanatory model and provide examples—hypothetical or documented—to support your argument. Back up your argument with research. Use clear topic sentences to introduce each paragraph.

Many people find it easier to write the introduction after they have written the body of the essay. Remember, a good essay introduction includes a clear thesis statement.

Step 5: Policy response

In your conclusion, suggest one potential policy response that may help reduce or address the crime that you have researched. This suggestion should be broadly consistent with your theoretical analysis. For example, if you have chosen serial murder and explained it with reference to biological determinism, you may suggest brain imaging and compulsory treatment for young offenders suspected of being predisposed to violent crime.

Notes

Things to remember:

  • Take the time to plan properly.A 2000 word essay is a substantial piece of writing but, once you break it up into components pieces, it is less space than you might think. Paragraphs should generally be around 100–150 words, meaning that 15 or so decent sized paragraphs will likely make up the whole essay.
  • Back up your claims with research. This means not only making a claim, but also supporting that claim with evidence (i.e. references to scholarly sources). Good essays are well supported by research. Aim to include 1–2 references in each paragraph in the body of your essay.
  • Start writing early.A 2000 word essay takes time to put together and you may find that your approach/argument changes as you conduct your research. Leave sufficient time to make changes.
  • Use appropriate sources, particularly peer-reviewed research articles and books. You may use other sources to provide supporting information (e.g. the ABS or the Victorian Crime Statistics Agency for crime statistics). Include at least 10 referencesin your research essay. Remember that this is a research essay—we want to see how well you can find your own information. This means we want to see referencing beyond the resources that we have given to you (i.e. your course textbook and required readings).
  • Do not use non-scholarly sourcesg. random websites and Wikipedia.
  • Reference properly. The required referencing style is Swinburne Harvard, the same as your annotated bibliography and essay plan. Remember that material that is not referenced properly may breach your responsibilities regarding academic honesty.
  • Discuss your essay plan and any potential problems with your eLA. They can provide you with specific advice about your chosen topic and theory, and advise you on the best approaches to take.

Summarise the views presented in the two above research articles and link them to the views that financial industry holds about the effects of commodity financialisation for investment opportunities.

Financialization of Commodity Markets

Task

We would like you to begin by reading the following research papers:

  1. Bhardwaj, Geetesh, Gary Gorton and Geert Rouwenhorst (2015), “Facts and Fantasies about Commodity Futures Ten Years Later”, NBER Working Papers 21243, National Bureau of Economic Research, Inc. Available at: http://www.nber.org/papers/w21243.pdf
  2. Cheng, In-Haw and Wei Xiong (2014), “Financialization of Commodity Markets”, Annual Review of Financial Economics 1(6), 419-44, Available at:https://www.annualreviews.org/doi/10.1146/annurev-financial-110613-034432(earlier version, acceptable for this activity as well is here: http://www.nber.org/papers/w19642 )

In addition, we would also like you to read the following Financial Times articles:

  1. Bunge says China lenders dostorting soybean trade”, by Gregory Meyer, February 12, 2015
  2. Commodities explained: China’s new normal”, by Henry Sanderson, February 23, 2015
  3. Investment: Revaluing commodities”, by Gregory Meyer and John Authers, June 3, 2015
  4. Financialisation compounds commodity rout” by Satyajit Das, December 29, 2015
  5. Speculators march into China commodities” by Henry Sanderson, April 27, 2016
  6. A once timeless skill in commodities investing is under threat” by Gregory Meyer, July 6, 2018

There has been a debate in academia and the financial industry about the topic of commodity financialisation. Commentators focus on asking if commodity financialisation has significantly influenced commodity markets and the process of commodity price determination.

Now complete the following two tasks:

  1. Summarise the views presented in the two above research articles and link them to the views that financial industry holds about the effects of commodity financialisation for investment opportunities.
  2. In the light of what you have learned in this course so far (especially of the Theory of Normal Backwardation and Theory of Storage), discuss how, in your opinion, commodity financialisation has affected the relation between spot and futures prices for commodities?

In preparing your answers to the above questions (write around 300 words for each question), you may find it useful to reflect on the queries below in order to help help direct your thoughts. Please note – you are not required to answer these queries specifically in the written answers to the above two questions.

  • What does the term commodity financialisation represent?
  • What were the reasons for commodity financialisation?
  • Who were the main market participants in commodity futures markets before commodity financialisation and after that?

Identify at least one factor that may negatively influence adherence to the medications and how it can be overcome If, appropriate, describe how the family might be involved in ensuring the client is on a proper and safe medication regime.

Polypharmacology and my father in law

Conduct an interview of a client who is taking multiple medications (polypharmacy). You must prepare the client before the interview by explaining why you are conducting the interview. You can say “my assignment is to find out about the medications you are taking so I can determine if you need more information about what you are taking”. You must always get permission from the client to conduct the interview and you must tell the client how the information will be used. You can say, “I will not be using your name in the information I share and I will be submitting it to my instructor only for this student assignment”. If there is important information that needs to be communicated to you, your doctor, family, or nurse, my instructor will assist me in following up on this”. Tell the client you will take no more than 30-45 minutes for the interview.

There may be a family member or significant other present during the interview. That is fine. Be sure to identify who answered a question and if possible always have the client answer first. Always thank the client (and others) when you complete the interview.

Do not use recording equipment for this interview. Have a notepad and pencil or pen and explain that you will be taking notes. When the interview is over, go to a quiet place and take some time to fill in any information you did not jot down. If you wait, you will not remember.

When setting the environment for the interview, make sure the client (and others) is comfortable and you are comfortably seated facing the client. If possible, do the interview in a quiet place. Ask questions slowly giving the client time to answer. Pay attention to the client’s hearing and ability to respond to the questions. Be sure your non-verbal communication demonstrates you are calm and relaxed.

Use the following interview question guidelines when conducting the interview. Be aware that the client may not be able to answer each of the questions with detailed information. Collect as much information as the client is able and willing to give you. Remember you are the interviewer so you will be collecting information and not making any comments about the information shared by the client except to ask for further clarification if you are not sure what was said or need more detail if it is available.

What medications are you taking?
Before the interview research each of the medications. In your paper include the reason for each medication, the drug classification, the route of administration, the dose, and possible side effects/adverse reactions.

For the following questions, paraphrase the client’s answers for your written paper.

How long have you taken each these medications?
Do you know why you are taking these medications?
Who told you about the medications and why you need to take them? Were you able to ask any questions about the medications and if so were they answered so you understood what was said?
How do you feel about taking these medications?
Are you taking other medication purchased “over the counter” such as in a drug store? If so, what is it and why are you taking it.
How and when do you take your medications?
Do you have any difficulty taking the medications? If so, what happens and how do you deal with any difficulties.
Have you ever felt any uncomfortable feelings and/or body reactions to taking these medications? If so, what were they and how were they handled?
If you had the above reaction, did they take you off the medication and/or replace it with another medication? Were you told why this happened?
Do you have any reason not to take the medications?
Have you ever not taken the medication? If so, what was the reason?

Ask a final question about whether the client would like to tell you anything further about their medications.

Write a paper describing your research and findings about the medications being taken and the results of the interview. Report your findings in a 3-5 page written paper. In your paper include the reason for each medication, the drug classification, the route of administration, the dose, and possible side effects/adverse reactions.

Use accurate and appropriate spelling and grammar and APA Editorial Format for sources used in your written paper.

Develop a teaching plan for this client based on your findings. Based on the findings from the interview, develop a 2-3 page teaching plan to include the following:

List one goal for this teaching plan.
Describe two to three teaching resources that might be used.
Identify two teaching strategies that can be used based on the client interviewed.
List specific client instructions regarding the medications and what adverse reactions they should be aware of/and what to do.
Identify at least one factor that may negatively influence adherence to the medications and how it can be overcome
If, appropriate, describe how the family might be involved in ensuring the client is on a proper and safe medication regime.

What are the sociodemographic, health and lifestyle characteristics of your sample participants? Describing your sample is the first part of your analysis and comes first in the report results. The required data set will be sent to you by email. Each student has their own dataset which will not be exactly the same as anyone else’s.
The SPSS file (which will be named with your own name) contains data from 500 individuals. All variables are fully explained in the “Variable View” window. Use these data to plan your descriptive and inferential analyses to address the assignment set out in the steps below. You will present the results in the form of a statistical report. You will find an outline and instructions for the statistical report in the file named ‘P44616 – Data Analysis and Interpretation: How to write a statistical report’ (Assignment Folder on Moodle).

Step 1:
Get to know your data. Look at the variables and see what they are measuring and what types of data you have to analyse.

Step 2:
Plan and describe how you will summarise the socio-demographic and general health of the sample (descriptive statistics). Think about the following points: What summary statistics will you use for which kinds of data? What data will you put in tables and/or graphs? How will you assess the suitability of each of these methods? What assumptions are they based on? How will you treat each variable?
What are the sociodemographic, health and lifestyle characteristics of your sample participants? Describing your sample is the first part of your analysis and comes first in the report results. Think about why it is important to get a description of the sample before you present results from hypothesis testings.

Step 3:
Develop a series of hypotheses that can be tested using the different types of statistical tests below. What would be the hypotheses? What tests will you do and why? Explain why the statistical techniques that you will use are appropriate. (Hint: weeks 3-10). If you decide to create new variables, describe how you will do so and why you chose each method of doing so. (Hint: see information in weeks 1-4)

• Select two categorical variables that are of interest to you and perform an appropriate univariate statistical test. Explain why the statistical test that you have used is appropriate, show the results and report your conclusion. Repeat this again using two new categorical variables or one new outcome (dependent) variable for the same potential explanatory (independent) variable.

• Select a variable with two or three categories and investigate how the values of another continuous (scale) variable differ between categories. You may choose to create a new variable with two, three, or more categories from an existing continuous or categorical variable. (Example: blood pressure and gender or blood pressure and BMI categorised as normal, overweight, obese.) Repeat this again with another pair of variables that will lead to a nonparametric test if possible. (Hint: explore the data to look for skewed distributions of a continuous variable).

• Perform a multiple linear regression analysis to find those independent variables (continuous and categorical) that are significantly related to systolic blood pressure at the 5% significance level.
Use Enter method to add potential risk factors.
Data Analysis and Interpretation: How to write your statistical report
Formatting for your report and word count
Reports should be typed in at least point 12 font using a standard legible font style such as Calibri, Times New Roman, Arial or similar. A size 10 font may be used for tables. Number the pages of your report and use 1.5 spacing.
Word count (excludes title page, reference list and appendices): No more than 3,500 words
Note that anything over the word limit will incur a penalty by loss of marks. Please state the word count at the end of your assignment – these will be checked.

Writing your report
An important part of the process of science is the communication of results to the wider scientific community in a more or less standard format. You need to learn this format, and how to write up the results of your studies within it.
These general guidelines aim to assist you in developing your report writing skills.
Your report should follow the general plan of a research paper in a Public Health journal. It should give the rationale for your research, methods, results and implications of your findings. These descriptions and explanations must be full, precise and concise. This is to allow efficient communication of your research findings and to allow other researchers to repeat your study. Therefore, you have to squeeze a lot of information into a short report which is nevertheless easy to read.

Discuss how city and county residents are taxed for sport venues and whether public funding should be used for sport and entertainment venues.

Business of Sport Discussion

Discuss how city and county residents are taxed for sport venues and whether public funding should be used for sport and entertainment venues (10 points).

Research and give one example of how public funding has been used to build a stadium (5 points).

Known as one of the world’s most spectacular venues, the Mercedes Benz stadium in Atlanta, Georgia is the first LEED Platinum certified professional sports stadium in North America. The stadium is home to the Atlanta Falcons, Atlanta United FC, and the Chick-fil-A-Kickoff Game. The construction for the stadium broke ground in 2014 and opened to the public in August 2017.

Building Mercedes Benz Stadium was a controversial decision during the beginning of the proposal process in 2010. In fact, Atlanta already had a stadium downtown—the Georgia Dome—that debuted in 1992 at a cost of $214 million ($398.8 million today) and was the second largest covered stadium in the world (by capacity) at the time (Associated Press 2017). The Georgia Dome held historic events, such as the 1996 Summer Olympics, NCAA men’s final four, and hundreds of professional and amateur sporting events throughout the years. The Georgia Dome had not even reached its 20th birthday by the time discussions started on knocking down the facility and building a new one.

The Georgia Dome was demolished in 2017, and 95 percent of the stadium was recycled and reused. The lot where the Georgia Dome once stood is now used as a green space known as the Home Depot backyard, an 11-acre greenspace next to the Mercedes Benz stadium used for parking and tailgating as well as events and programming on nongame days. The new stadium was able to get platinum LEED certified recognition because

it saves 29 percent in energy usage in comparison to other stadiums,

rainwater is used for landscape irrigation,

it has 4,000 solar panels,

LED lighting throughout the facility reduces energy usage by as much as 60 percent, and

it has edible landscaping (Mercedes Benz Stadium 2020).

Arthur Blank has vowed to rehabilitate the west side of Atlanta by using Mercedes Benz Stadium as the fulcrum that will help to spread success throughout Atlanta and the surrounding communities. In fact, he created a plan called Westside Works, which is a long-term neighborhood program that is focused on creating employment opportunities and job training for residents of the west side community where Mercedes Benz Stadium is located. One of the programs within Westside Works is a six-week culinary academy that trains chefs and is a pipeline to employment inside Levy Restaurant venues in metro Atlanta, including Mercedes Benz Stadium (Solomon 2019). Since construction of the stadium was completed, Mercedes Benz Stadium has hosted many events including a Super Bowl in 2019 and the NCAA Men’s Basketball tournament in 2020, and has made the list of possible venues for the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

Both Mercedes Benz Stadium and the Georgia Dome used public funding through taxpayer dollars to secure the construction of the stadium, with both promoters saying that stadium construction in that area would help the community.
