Summary
The detailed description of your innovation project should provide enough information to propose the project to a client or a source of funding entity. The technology, operational environment and competitive value of the solutions should be addressed. All of the areas covered in Part 1 should be re-visited in more detail. The idea here is to compel the reader to embrace the solution. The detailed description should not exceed ten double spaced, pages, using no larger than the Times New Roman, 12-point font.

The presentation should summarize the detailed description of the project. Assume that your audience has already read the detailed description document from Part 2. Cover each of the required sections from Part 2 in a new chart. Each chart should summarize of those sections using bullet points. Each chart should contain talking points annotations and/or narrations.

The presentation should contain a title page chart, only enough charts to cover the required sections from Part 2 , and a conclusion chart. The idea is to convey a vision of your innovation project that would need to be followed at some point in time with a project plan if you are successful in getting approval for the project.

Compare and contrast the way Southwest Airlines  uses the Internet to how the competitor does. What seems to be the competitor’s strategy? How does Southwest Airlines use of the Internet vary from the competitor?

Airlines company and the usage of the Internet

Research how one of Southwest Airlines competitors is using the Internet (let’s use American Airlines as the competitor). Provide a description of the competitor’s use of the Internet: e.g., webpage, social media, mobile apps. Compare and contrast the way Southwest Airlines uses the Internet to how the competitor does. What seems to be the competitor’s strategy? How does Southwest Airlines use of the Internet vary from the competitor? How could your business use information technology differently, consistent with the business’ generic strategy (cost leadership, differentiation, or focused strategy), to be more effective than the competition.

What did you get for your regression line? What was your r value? What did this tell you? What would be a scenario where you might need to use this application?

Open excel

In one column enter 8 heights for 10 year old boys (inches) and in the second column enter 8 weights for 10 year old boys (pounds). Ten year old boys height ranges from 42 inches to 62 inches while the weight ranges from 60 to 90 pounds. You can make these up as long as they are reasonable if you do not have access to any data. We want to see if there is a correlation.

Move your mouse to put a box around the numbers.
From the insert menu select scatter or the chart that says scatter and then select the chart at the top left on the dropdown

Click on one of the points
Select Add Trendline (Note you may need to add Trendline and then click on the line to format Trendline)
The default radio button is linear, keep it checked
Check display equation on chart and click on the display r-squared value
The equation is your least squares line
On the least squares line the slope is in front of the x value. Also, you can look at the slope of the scatter plot to see if the slope is positive. This will let you know whether to make the r value positive or negative when you take the square root of r^2.
If the r^2 value is say .0382 then you will click on an excel cell and type
=.0382^.5

Note the ^ key is above the 6 key

This will be your r value and you will make it negative if your slope is negative otherwise leave it positive.
If you have a different version of excel then you may want to search to see how to form a trendline. These instructions work with Office 365 and Office 2010.

Then follow these instructions:

Attach your excel worksheet with your scatter plot, r value and regression line along with your post if possible. What did you get for your regression line? What was your r value? What did this tell you?
What would be a scenario where you might need to use this application?

Identify and describe a long-term investment project (either real or fictional) that would likely require significant capital commitment.

Discussion 2-1 FIN 660

Why might companies disregard a positive NPV? MIT professor of financial economics Stewart C. Myers asserts that different decision rules might apply when investments are long-term rather than short-term (Myers, 1977). Financial managers may rationalize that it is in their immediate interest to invest in short-term projects because they bring the most shareholder benefits; this is, in other words, the so-called agency problem. However, what could be the long-term consequences of that strategy? Watch the short agency problem video (7:14) below for an explanation of this conundrum in detail with good examples.

Identify and describe a long-term investment project (either real or fictional) that would likely require significant capital commitment. If you were acting as a financial analyst, what factors would you consider in the decision to move forward or abandon the project? In your initial response, you may discuss such factors as:

NPV
IRR
EBIT
WACC
Corporate structure
Market structure
Corporate goals and mission

Regardless of these factors, why might this project still be a worthy investment? Are there certain industries that might demand a more long-term strategy? Which ones? In your responses to your peers, compare and contrast your views with your classmates’ observations.
