What is the paradox in the poem you are analyzing? How does that paradox contribute to the overall meaning of the poem? Why is it important/helpful/necessary/beneficial to express this meaning through paradox? Or, to use Brooks’s language: why is the paradox in the poem you’re looking at “the only way by which the poet could say what [he/or she] says”? Why would saying what the poet says without paradox “enfeeble and distort what is to be said”?

Poem Analysis Thesis

HOW DOES THE CONCEPT OF PARADOX CONTRIBUTE TO THE MEANING OF ONE OF THE POEMS WE READ IN THIS MODULE (excluding “The Canonization,” which Brooks has already analyzed).

Use Cleanth Brooks’s concept of paradox to support your thesis. What is the paradox in the poem you are analyzing? How does that paradox contribute to the overall meaning of the poem? Why is it important/helpful/necessary/beneficial to express this meaning through paradox? Or, to use Brooks’s language: why is the paradox in the poem you’re looking at “the only way by which the poet could say what [he/or she] says” (3)? Why would saying what the poet says without paradox “enfeeble and distort what is to be said” (4)?

Include at least one quote from the Brooks essay and at least one quote from the poem you are analyzing.

Please do not include any definitions of paradox that come from a dictionary. You are encouraged to define your terms, but your definition of paradox should come from the Brooks essay or from an essay about Brooks (the Nasrullah Mambrol essay, for example).

Explain and compare freedom of expression and hate speech. Analyse how hate speech and free speech could be balanced in order to examine how far an online intermediary’s liability should be. A heavy burden of an intermediary would restrict freedom of expression and impede innovation.

Liability of the internet intermediary for hate speech: how far should it go?

– Explain and compare freedom of expression and hate speech.

– Examine a controversial issue that should the internet platform be responsible for third party content? Even though such intermediaries do not produce hate speech content by themselves, they store and transmit such information. Accordingly, it is their duty to monitor and remove those illegal contents.

– Analyse how hate speech and free speech could be balanced in order to examine how far an online intermediary’s liability should be. A heavy burden of an intermediary would restrict freedom of expression and impede innovation.

– Compare in different jurisdictions. For example, China and India have imposed strict liability to the intermediary, failure to comply would lead to severe penalties. Meanwhile, in the US there are wide exemptions of intermediary’s liability, granting them immunity to a monetary penalty.

Make sure to write it from the UK legal perspective and that the essay is narrow and concise as possible. You can look at any specific aspects.

What most stood out to you from what you read? What does this tell you about the reasons for vaccine hesitancy among minoritized communities? In what ways does this connect with what we studied in class this week? What did you learn about how we can work to build trust between the medicine/science and minoritized communities? What strategies for building trust do you think will be most effective?

Gaining buy in

This week, we examined the details of some of the most infamous scientific studies ever conducted, many of which were conducted here in the United States. Each of these cases created an enormous amount of distrust in the scientific and medical community, particularly amongst certain groups of people. African-Americans were most directly affected by the Tuskegee Syphilis Study which is, in part, culpable for a skepticism towards healthcare that is still prevalent today. For this assignment, think about and investigate how instances of racism in medicine may have direct effects on current healthcare interventions.

To help get you started, check out this article that discusses the apprehension among minoritized communities toward the COVID vaccine. You’re welcome (and encouraged) to find other articles that cover this same topic. Then, write a 150+ word reflection about any combination of the following (your choice!):

What most stood out to you from what you read?

What does this tell you about the reasons for vaccine hesitancy among minoritized communities? In what ways does this connect with what we studied in class this week?

What did you learn about how we can work to build trust between the medicine/science and minoritized communities? What strategies for building trust do you think will be most effective?

Baseline analysis and Proposals Report (OA level for the Parish of Wilmslow)

Your first assignment is a baseline analysis report focusing on a particular topic that you have identified through the analysis of a range of data sources. This will include producing MS Excel based data analysis, presentation and statistical analysis, ArcGIS PRO choropleth mapping, overlaying other data layers on your base map (i.e. Using the overlay technique in ArcGIS PRO) and undertaking spatial analysis (e.g. buffering). Your baseline assessement you typically focus one of the following topics:

The analysis should be undertaken at what is called the OA level for the Parish of Wilmslow. Your analysis should be put into context and examine how this compares to the whole of the Cheshire East Council area. A full assessment briefing will be issued in week 5.

Building on assignment Part I, you will produce a report which identifies a number of proposals to tackle the various issues you have identified in your previous analysis. The report should highlight/summarise the key issues you have identified and then focus on your various solutions and proposal for your chosen topic. The report should be illustrated with a series of maps, plans, diagrams, illustrations etc. to show how you intend to address the matter. You proposals report should include:Provide a written explanation to support and justify your proposals.
