Tragedy and Race

Assessment 2 is an independent essay. Working with your seminar leader, and the themes and texts from the module (or elsewhere), you will develop your own topic and submit a 2,000-word essay.

You are not limited to module texts, but your primary material should be performance based (whether written play-text or actual screen/stage performance).
There is no minimum or maximum number of plays that you may write about.

Choose a suitable play from the list below and that you are able to write on to provide a high-quality paper. Choose at least 2-3 plays to focus on in this topic and essay.
It depends a bit on the sort of play you want If you want an Ancient Greek play, Medea is probably the best. If you want something from the Renaissance, then Tragedy of Mariam would work, and there’s also Othello. If you prefer a modern tragedy, there’s Death and the King’s Horseman, or Emilia, from the module, or there’s lots of other playwrights, such as Susan-Lori Parks.

IMPACT OF SOCIAL MEDIA ON SPORTS MARKETING – A CASE OF NIKE UK

Objectives:

Typical objectives should be in this flow::
– To review existing literature on e-commerce in the retail industry
– To review literature on the impact of e-commerce and customer relationship, including benefits and barriers, within the context of retail industry in the UK
– Based on research gap, to conduct survey in order to validate research studies
– To analyse and synthesise data using quantitative analytical research
– From data analysis, to make recommendations for effective/successful e-commerce adoption (if research is based on customers – end-user) or implementation (if research is based on organisational/manufacturer perspective)

You can see from above that the objectives must cover your key words (E-Commerce/Impact/customer relationship/retail or fashion industry). The objectives also cover this step: literature review, to research methodology, to data analysis and recommendations/conclusions.]

– To review existing literature on
– Based on research gap(s) identified to carry out research survey (using questionnaire/interviews/focus group, etc) in order to carry out research purpose – investigate factors influencing on students’ willingness to pay z premium for luxury goods, etc (research methodology)
– To analyse and synthesis data using statistical / traditional analytical tools such as SPSS/AMOS/Regression Analysis/nVivo (Data Analysis)

Data Analysis: – Data collection and analysis strategic
You need to explain the strategies for collecting data, how you would select your respondents (randomly or through planned/structured) and how are you going to complete the questionnaire – through named representative or face to face/online. How many questionnaires and the distribution of the questionnaires – is it via depts./services or randomly?
What analytical tool are you planning to use to illustrate and present your data – SPSS/AMOS/nVivo/Bar/Pie chart/Exel?

Apply legislation relevant to Roads Policing in respect of vehicles on the strategic roads network. Examine the methods for information gathering and the use of intelligence under the National Intelligence Model (NIM). Appraise the different approaches to ‘Volume Crime Investigations’ and ‘Serious and Complex’ investigations.

Task: To produce an appropriate Investigation Plan linked to a ‘serious and complex’ crime (3,000 words).

Built around a case study provided this Assessment asks the learner to produce an Investigation Plan (3,000) linked to a ‘serious and complex’ crime.

The learner will be expected to include;

1) Initial Actions

2) Further Actions

3) Legislation, Policies & procedures.

They may find the mnemonic UPERE (taken from ACPO Centrex, 2005, pp60-3) useful which states the following may assist during the investigation process;

1)         Understanding the source material.

2)         Planning & Preparation e.g. planning an interview.

3)         Examination e.g. witness account.

4)         Recording & Collation e.g. making adequate records.

5)         Evaluation e.g. identify further action.

Case Study.

During 2019, North Yorkshire Police received a number of reports of offences of rape and other serious sexual offences. The modus operandi (method of operation) for the offences reported being young women aged between 18 – 25 years of age, who had been out during the evening, would wake at their home address the following morning to discover that they had been the victim of either rape or a serious sexual offence.

When asked about the events of the previous 24 hours they were able to remember or recite little if anything of what had occurred. It appeared that a number had consumed the rape drug Rohypnol. However some of the victims mentioned getting into a Black cab with the part registration A123 … and that the driver had a visible heart shaped tattoo on his neck.

At 20:00 hours on Saturday 22nd February 2020, Joanna McDonald (22 years) left her flat in Scarborough, making her way to Scarborough centre. During the evening she went into a number of pubs and clubs meeting with friends and consuming a variety of alcoholic drinks.

At 02:00 on Sunday 23rd February 2020, Ms McDonald left the Blue Oyster Club, getting into a black cab with the part registration A123 … , whilst in the back of the cab the driver a white male aged  between 40 – 45 years of age who had a visible heart shaped tattoo on his neck struck up a conversation with her in which he suggested that he had recently won a large sum of money, (he showed her a plastic carrier bag in which there appeared to be a large quantity of £20 and £10 Bank of England notes), he went onto ask Ms McDonald whether she wished to celebrate with him offering her some champagne, when she declined he offered her water.

Although Ms McDonald took the bottle of water she did not consume any of it. Subsequently Ms McDonald was dropped off at her home address.

At 11:00 on the same day Ms McDonald reported what had occurred to the North Yorkshire Police. Following some initial enquires you as a Senior Investigator with one of the Public Protection Unit (PPU) within the North Yorkshire Police led a number of officers to the home address of Richard Smith, aged 43 years (Smith has a heart shaped tattoo on his neck).

Following the arrest of Smith a search of the home address recovered a plastic bag containing in excess of £3,000 made up of £20 and £10 Bank of England notes. Near to the address was a Black cab registered number A123 JWS, you discovered keys for the vehicle in Smith’s address. Upon searching the cab in the boot you recovered what appears to be a home-made kit consisting of Rohypnol tablets, plastic drinking glasses, 4 x bottles of water and 3 x small bottles of champagne, there is also a selection of ‘sex toys’.

Having led the initial enquiries and as a Senior Investigator within the PPU you have now been tasked with planning/organising the investigation that needs to take place. Your plan needs to look at a number of factors/issues including; current legislation, time restraints, Forensics and future lines of enquiry.

Learners may wish to familiarise themselves with the Centrex (2005) document titled ‘Proactive Advice on – Core Investigative Doctrine’.

The Preface to the document conceptualises its content when it states:

‘The performance of the police in the area of investigation is continually under scrutiny by the government, the criminal justice system and the media. There is widespread recognition within the police service that there is a need to improve the professionalism of the investigative process.

The Professionalising the Investigation Programme (PIP) was introduced by the Association of Chief Police Officers (ACPO) Crime Business Area as a key initiative within the Police reform agenda…

Core Investigative Doctrine provides definitive national guidance of all investigations as defined by PIP on the key principles of criminal investigation irrespective of the nature or complexity of the investigation’.

Completion of this assessment will address the following learning outcomes:
Apply legislation relevant to Roads Policing in respect of vehicles on the strategic roads network.
Examine the methods for information gathering and the use of intelligence under the National Intelligence Model (NIM).
Appraise the different approaches to ‘Volume Crime Investigations’ and ‘Serious and Complex’ investigations.

Conduct a basic search of the literature to identify relevant research articles that will help to formulate a proposal for such a follow-up research project. Using the prompts provided as a guide, students should then write a brief introduction and method section, in which a new study is proposed building on the research outlined in the article chosen.

Guided Research Proposal

Guided Research Proposal requires students to use the SAME research article they used for Assessment 2. Students will first identify a suggestion for follow-up research given by the authors of the article they have chosen. Then, students will conduct a basic search of the literature to identify relevant research articles that will help them to formulate a proposal for such a follow-up research project. Using the prompts provided as a guide, students should then write a brief introduction and method section, in which a new study is proposed building on the research outlined in the article chosen.

As this is likely the first time students have encountered such a style of assessment, Assessment 4 is guided, with students asked to respond to a series of questions. The goal here is to develop fundamental skills that will enable students to prepare and produce research reports and proposal documents in level 200 psychology units and above within their degree.

What is the appropriate test? What is the null and what is the alternative hypothesis? What are the assumptions for this test? Run the appropriate test in R or SAS. What is the p-value? What is your verdict?

Assignment 08

To complete the following questions, you need the dataset Video Questions.csv, which you can find on Lab 10 on Moodle. This dataset contains the number of correct answers of 241 to two questionnaires which the participants completed after watching 2 educational videos. It also contains their gender and age.

  1. Deciding on a T-Test: The researcher wants to compare the responses of the individuals to the first video by genders, should they use a pooled or independent T-test?
  2. Try to answer the question above with a hypothesis test. What is your null and what is your alternative?
  3. Use the appropriate test to answer (a). What is your p-value? What is the verdict?

  1. Executing the T-Test: The researcher then wants to find if there is a difference in the number of correct answers for video 1 for the two genders, using a T-test comparison.
  2. What is your null and alternative hypothesis?
  3. Create some summary statistics, for the variable Vid1, by the two genders.
  4. What are some assumptions that need to be checked for the process to work?
  5. Test if the variable Vid1 is normally distributed for the two genders respectively.
  6. Use SAS or R to run the appropriate T-test, present your T score and the p-value.
  7. What is your verdict?

  1. Paired T-Test: Continuing question 1, the research wants now to find if the two videos produce statistically similar results.

  1. What is the appropriate test? What is the null and what is the alternative hypothesis?
  2. What are the assumptions for this test?
  3. Run the appropriate test in R or SAS. What is the p-value?
  4. What is your verdict?

  1. Proportions test: The researcher now wants to find if the ratio of kids is the same among the two genders.

  1. Create a table with the variables Gender and Char, to find the proportion of Kids vs Not Kids for both genders.
  2. Set up a hypothesis test. What is your null and what is your alternative hypothesis?
  3. What are the assumptions for this test? Check the ones you can check and mention the ones you cannot.
  4. Compute the corresponding statistic and the p-value. What is your verdict?
