Create a problem statement.Identify the specific problem you wish to address. The documented problem may be a practical problem or issue in the profession or study context without an acceptable solution.

Create a problem statement. Your problem must come from a critical issue that must be addressed, otherwise negative consequences will occur or continue.  In most cases, scholarly citations within the past 5 years are required to support the problem you will investigate.

Articulate a concise problem statement. Include appropriate published or relevant primary sources to document the existence of a problem worthy of doctoral level research.  Follow these steps:

  1. Present the general issue grounded in the research literature that leads to the need for the study.
  2. Identify the specific problem you wish to address. The documented problem may be a practical problem or issue in the profession or study context without an acceptable solution.
  3. In defining the problem, a clear discrepancy must be drawn between what exists currently and what is desired.  Although an applied study design does not necessarily require generalizability beyond the study site, worthy problems must be relevant and documented beyond any particular study site.
  4. To identify and articulate a problem, consider the potential negative consequences to the field or stakeholders if the proposed research is never conducted.

Support your assignment with at least five scholarly resources. In addition to these specified resources, other appropriate scholarly resources, including older articles, may be included.

What should your assessment be on this patient? Explain in detail. After completing your assessment, what should your next step be? Be specific.

Your patient C.S is 78 years old. Admitted to the nursing home you work at, with a diagnosis of dehydration. C.S., has been ordered to increase her oral fluid intake to 2500cc per day. When offering her a glass of water, she pushes away your hand and says “I hate water and I don’t drink it much”. You note that after one and a half days she has dry mucous membranes and poor skin turgor.

Questions:

1. What should your assessment be on this patient? Explain in detail.

2. After completing your assessment, what should your next step be? Be specific.

3. Write 3 complete nursing diagnosis from above information. Include all 3 sections (NANDA, Related to (R/T) & Evidence based practice (EBP) & include 2 nursing interventions for each nursing diagnosis.

Scenario 2:
Ms. Cohen is hospitalized for repair of a fractured hip after a fall at home. She requires intravenous (IV) antibiotics after surgery. Shortly after the first dose she became restless and started picking at her IV line and frequently tried to get out of bed. Several restraint alternatives were attempted; but, because of her restlessness, she was successful at pulling out her IV line and getting out of bed. It becomes necessary to restrain Ms. Cohen.

Questions:
1. You know that a health care provider’s order is required for the restraint. What are essential components of the restraint order?
2. Which assessments do you need to perform on Ms. Cohen while she is restrained?
3. The physician orders a belt restraint. Your assessment of Ms. Cohen the next day reveals that during the day she is alert and pleasantly confused but not attempting to get out of bed. Do you continue use of the restraint? Explain.

What are the main political and economic risks that ABB must deal with given that it has a strong focus on entering emerging economies?

ABB, headquartered in Zurich, Switzerland, is a major competitor in the power and automation technologies industries across the major markets globally. It has 140,000 employees operating in almost 100 countries. In fact, it has five major businesses—power products, power systems, discrete automation, low voltage products, and process automation. It operates in eight major regions: (1) Northern Europe, (2) Central Europe, (3) the Mediterranean, (4) North America, (5) South America, (6) India, the Middle East, and Africa, (7) North Asia, and (8) South Asia. Over time, ABB has been a successful company using its geographic diversification across the globe to its advantage.
It also exemplifies the difficulty of managing an international strategy and operations. For example, its power systems business has experienced performance problems in recent years due to poor performance in some countries due primarily to the economy downturn. Notwithstanding the difficulty of managing in emerging economies, much of its growth is focused on improving country infrastructure such as power systems and grids. In 2014, the firm announced that the Asia, Middle East, and Africa (AMEA) region currently contributes about 37 percent of ABB’s total revenue, or about $15.3 billion, and “emerging markets were planned to contribute to two-thirds of the forecast growth between 2015 and 2020.”
In recent years, most of ABB’s entries to new markets and expansions in existing markets have come from acquisitions of existing businesses in those markets. Recently, it acquired Siemens’ solar energy business, Power-One, and U.S.-based Los Gatos Research, a manufacturer of gas analyzers used in environmental monitoring and research. The purchase of Power-One represents a major risk as the solar power industry is in a downturn. Yet some analysts predict a brighter future for the industry over the long term. ABB also uses other modes of entry and expansion, exemplified by the 2013 joint venture with China’s Jiangsu Jinke Smart Electric Company to design, manufacture, and provide follow- up service on high voltage instrument transformers. It also recently procured major contracts for business in Brazil and South Africa.
Partly due to the global economic recession that began in 2008, recent weak economic performance, and some poor expansion decisions, ABB’s performance has been weaker than expected. As a result, the CEO and chief technology officer announced their resignations in 2013. Despite these changes, ABB is a highly respected global brand, and, after its recent changes (e.g., closing some country operations), its revenues and earnings have started to rise. These positive changes have been largely attributed to the success of its North American businesses. Its acquisitions of Baldor (maker of industrial motors) in 2010 and Thomas & Betts in 2012 greatly enhanced its North American operations and
revenues. It has also had success in manufacturing equipment and robots with its robotics business headquartered in the United States. It is even moving to help small companies, such as ones in the beer industry, to automate their production processes. Therefore, even in turbulent times, ABB’s future looks bright.

What are the dominant reason’s for ABB to enter into international markets?
Which corporate international strategy would you classify ABB as using? Explain your answer.
Why has ABB used acquisitions and joint ventures as dominant entry modes in international markets?
What are the main political and economic risks that ABB must deal with given that it has a strong focus on entering emerging economies?
What are the significant organizational complexities that ABB encounters as it tries to manage its international strategy?

Explain to Neela at least three differences between depression and anxiety—choosing three that apply in particular to her case. List your top two short-term goals and interventions you would recommend for Neela.

Neela has split up with her boyfriend of four years. “Nick was abusive, but now he’s in jail, so it’s been easy this year to make some changes,” she says. She is confident that she will never go back to him, but says she’s left with “some residue—like nightmares, hyperalertness, a little too much drinking, and the blues.” She says she has always been a light social drinker and denies a history of alcoholism, although she struggles with alcohol now. She also reports that she sleeps “too light”; she can’t get to sleep, and then when she does, she’s hypervigilant, sitting up and thinking that she hears him coming into her apartment every time she drifts off. She wakes up in such moments in a cold sweat with her heart pounding in her temples, she hyperventilates and everything feels unreal, “like I’m in some creepy slasher film on late-night TV. I’m always so glad when the sun comes up!”

The alcohol “takes the edge off” her nerves and “helps with the depression.” Asked if she is sad most of the time, she says, “No. I really am over him, but I’m still scared. I get collect calls from him in prison, but I never accept them. I think if I could just get a different job, a different apartment, in a different city, I’d be fine. I could start all over again. I’ve sent out résumés, but until something comes up, I’m sort of stuck here in limbo where he knows he can find me. Ultimately, then, I’m here to treat this depression. I’m depressed, right?”.

How could you apply strategies from the fourth level of crisis intervention—i.e., the individual approach—in tackling Elle’s current situation?

Elle, 39, has come in for treatment for severe panic attacks. Her daughter, Savannah, is leaving for college for the first time and is planning on driving up with a friend who will attend the same college. Savannah does not want her mother to go along. Elle says, “I have nightmares about them crashing somewhere and nobody knowing where they are.” She says she and Savannah have had arguments about this. Elle reports that the panic attacks began “about two weeks ago when Savannah and her dad both agreed that it was okay for her to drive up to the college with Jason.” Elle says that her worries are “not about sex. Jason is her best friend, but they’ve never dated, and in fact, Jason has a girlfriend. I admit the college is not far away, so it won’t be an overnight trip, but I don’t want Savannah to drive up with Jason. A three-hour drive. I want to do it.”

During assessment, you learn that 2 years ago, Savannah and her twin, Sophia, were in an after-prom car accident, in which teens in a car were driving to the next town over to go to the beach. Savannah’s twin was killed. Savannah was in the hospital for months and needed physical therapy for 18 months. As she describes the accident, Elle points out that the driver, Sophia’s date, escaped serious injury. “Funny, isn’t it?” she says. “The drunk driver always escapes injury while he hurts everyone around him.”

Savannah has pointed out that “Jason doesn’t drink. You know this. You’ve known him all his life. You’ve always liked him, even when I get annoyed with him.” Elle admits this, but still says, “I don’t want that boy driving her up there. It’s a long way.” Savannah complains that every time the subject comes up, Elle has a panic attack. Elle tells you privately, and sincerely, “I don’t mean to have these panic attacks. And I don’t want them. This just isn’t me.”

  1. Elle admits Jason doesn’t drink; he isn’t sexually involved with Savannah, and she has known him all his life, and that she’s always liked him. Yet she refers to him now as “that boy.” (1) Her fears aside, what emotional response to this new crisis for Elle is she displaying, particularly toward Jason? Do you think this emotion is directed just at Jason or at someone else as well? (2) What does this tell you about her current perception of this crisis?
  2. Now that you have a clearer vision of Elle’s perception of the crisis, what further aspects of Elle’s current status should you assess?
  3. While finishing your assessment, you learn that Elle has two very close friends, and a pretty solid marriage. Her husband has avoided the arguments between Savannah and Elle, declaring that “Savannah is a grown-up now, and capable of making such a small choice as who will drive her to school, on her own.” He refuses to get involved, and while he is sympathetic and affectionate during and after Elle’s panic attacks, he says they scare him a little. He wonders if there isn’t medication to control these.
You also learn that her best friend is her sister, who lives in town. This sister moved in with Elle right after Sophia’s death and was a “great comfort” during the early stages of grief and also came to the hospital almost every day to sit with Elle and Savannah during those first rough months. Elle’s sister has proposed that they have a “girl time” with Savannah the night before she leaves for college, but Elle has said, “I can’t think about that right now.”
You have not quite decided which level of crisis intervention to use just yet, but how could you apply strategies from the first three levels of crisis intervention—environmental manipulation, general support, and generic approach—in tackling Elle’s current situation?

How could you apply strategies from the fourth level of crisis intervention—i.e., the individual approach—in tackling Elle’s current situation?

Explain the traits and personality factors that should be considered when selecting the next president using the Reading from Chapter 5. Include the Big Five personality traits, Holland’s typology, and at least one other personality theory in your response

Scenario (fictional): The Pilston family has been in the cookware or camping business (your choice) for over 60 years. They have always had a family member as president of the (your company name of choice). As the current president steps down, the founders’ remaining family members are not inclined or are unable to take over the business and have called you in as their consultant to perform the executive search. They know this will be a challenge based on several changes that may need to take place in the very near future in order to successfully continue their business.

The industry is beginning to change. The competition is beginning to change over to using Blockchain ledger technology that shares data within a network in sequential order with a timestamp — like a database, but encrypted. They also have been increasingly automating their production line. Now with the increasing competition, they realize that without changing to these technologies, the business may not survive. This will mean laying off some personnel, and this will be the first time in its history that this company has had to contend with major layoffs; in the past layoffs were not necessary since growth outpaced the need to lay off workers. With no family member currently to lead the company, the company must do an intensive search for an individual suited not only to their industry with the right expertise and education, but the right personality to lead the company into a new era.

This company has a culture that has remained the same from its inception with a reputation for reliability within the industry. Most employees pass their jobs on to someone else residing in the local community by referring them for the job; so all employees really feel like one extended family. They expect little change now. Although their market has been predominantly in the United States (U.S.), with little or no diversity in the workforce, they are increasingly getting inquiries from Asian countries since competitors’ prices have increased substantially. Currently there are 300 employees in this small Western U.S. city though the salaries and benefits have always been on par with the industry salaries elsewhere in the country. Their belief in the customer first, taking the time to get things done in a precise manner, and honesty have been hallmarks of this family business.

In light of the possible future demands and needs of this company, and as this company’s hired consultant to do the executive search, address the checklist items.

Checklist:

Identify the industry and name of the company (your choice) based on your choice of either a cookware or camping equipment company, and identify the products the company provides.
Summarize the problem, and the company’s culture as presented in the scenario. Describe any changes that might be necessary and that will pertain to the type of personality the new president will need to have.
Explain the traits and personality factors that should be considered when selecting the next president using the Reading from Chapter 5. Include the Big Five personality traits, Holland’s typology, and at least one other personality theory in your response (you may use the Internet but provide the source URL).
Explain how the personality you described previously of the new president would benefit the employees and the success of the company going forward.

George looks at the reasons for and effects of the eroticization of girlhood. She argues that culture, marketing and media encourage young girls to dress in sexually provocative ways and use adult beauty products. Do you agree, with George, that allowing this opens up the possibility for young girls to dress and act in sexually provocative ways.

Choose ONE of the options (based on essays) below for your position paper:

“In Defense of Graffiti” (Alex Boyd)

Graffiti typically falls under two main categories. The first is the rambling, obscure and offensive type. The second type is more tangible, more political and accessible. It is the first type that generally creates negative associations and perceptions for graffiti. Alex Boyd examines the role of graffiti and defends its value. Many people feel that graffiti is a work or art and others argue that it is a crime. Take a clear position on the topic.

“Why are We Dressing Our Daughters Like This” (Lianne George)

George looks at the reasons for and effects of the eroticization of girlhood. She explains how things have changed for the worse for girls’ youth and the negative consequences involved. She argues that culture, marketing and media encourage young girls to dress in sexually provocative ways and use adult beauty products. Do you agree, with George, that allowing this opens up the possibility for young girls to dress and act in sexually provocative ways.
