Write an essay in which you explain how historians have struggled to articulate the nature and meaning of resistance in both institutional and day-to-day settings. What theoretical frameworks have been used to explain what resistance is, how it functions, and where it can be located? What are the key areas of contention among historians, if any?

Nature and meaning of resistance among enslaved Africans and African Americans in the United States

African Americans who came of age in the South in the past two hundred years ago faced a world dominated by institutional and individual oppression such as slavery, Jim Crow, mob violence, political repression, and economic subordination. Yet even in the darkest years the black experience was not without its points of resistance. Indeed, one of the dominant historiographical debates in the field of African-American history revolves around the question of resistance. Write an essay in which you explain how historians have struggled to articulate the nature and meaning of resistance in both institutional and day-to-day settings. What theoretical frameworks have been used to explain what resistance is, how it functions, and where it can be located? What are the key areas of contention among historians, if any?

Explain something that you would have handled differently. What is an insight that you gained from watching the therapist handle the group therapy? Now imagine you are leading your own group session. How would you go about handling a difficult situation with a disruptive group member?

To prepare:
• Select one of the group therapy video demonstrations from this week’s required media Learning Resources.

The Assignment
In a 3- to 4-page paper, identify the video you selected and address the following:
• What group therapy techniques were demonstrated? How well do you believe these techniques were demonstrated?
• What evidence from the literature supports the techniques demonstrated?
• What did you notice that the therapist did well?
• Explain something that you would have handled differently.
• What is an insight that you gained from watching the therapist handle the group therapy?
• Now imagine you are leading your own group session. How would you go about handling a difficult situation with a disruptive group member?      •  How would you elicit participation in your group? What would you anticipate finding in the different phases of group therapy? What do you see as the benefits and challenges of group therapy?
• Support your reasoning with at least three peer-reviewed, evidence-based sources, and explain why each of your supporting sources is considered scholarly. Attach the PDFs of your sources.

What is the core argument of the article and what is the author’s understanding of the concept of ‘security’? Is the article arguing against anything? Where does the article sit in terms of debates about security and the broader discipline of international security studies? What boundaries does the author seek to suggest are appropriate for the discipline of international security studies? What are the key strengths and weaknesses of the article?

Miller, Benjamin. “The Concept of Security: Should it be Redefined? ”

Conduct critical analysis for the following article – Miller, Benjamin. “The Concept of Security: Should it be Redefined? ” Journal of Strategic Studies 24, no. 2 (2001): 14–42.

When analysing consider the following questions:

What is the core argument of the article and what is the author’s understanding of the concept of ‘security’?

Is the article arguing against anything?

Where does the article sit in terms of debates about security and the broader discipline of international security studies?

What boundaries does the author seek to suggest are appropriate for the discipline of international security studies?

What are the key strengths and weaknesses of the article?

In answering these questions, consider the following framework:

Who/what is the appropriate reference object?

What counts as a security issue?

How is security achieved?

For a retail company of your choice with little (2 or 3 international markets at most) or no current physical international activities (the retailer may be selling online but has no physical stores) you should elaborate an internationalisation strategy.

Internationalisation strategy

For a retail company of your choice with little (2 or 3 international markets at most) or no current physical international activities (the retailer may be selling online but has no physical stores) you should elaborate an internationalisation strategy.

The first step, for which you are responsible, is to select the first (or next country) the company is going to go to. Your report, to be presented to the CEO of the company, should be brief and contain the key elements that back up your choice. All supporting analysis should be included in appendices. On your report you must attempt to cover the following points (this is merely indicative and you are allowed to also cover other international elements of your choice):

1. Market selection criteria you will use to select your potential countries
2. Research and analysis of potential foreign markets based on the criteria selected above (start with the entire world and narrow it down to 3 potential markets)
3. Global micro- and macro-environment analysis for the 3 selected markets
4. Selection of 1 final market from the short list of 3 countries with justification of your choice
5. Market entry options for the identified country

Your report will be assessed based on the following criteria:

  • Research evidence
  • Depth and coverage of the selected markets
  • Rigour of the links between theory and practice and the quality of the analysis
  • Recommendations that follow logically from your analysis
  • Presentation style (including Harvard referencing)

What was the ultraviolet catastrophe? (1 point) Explain what is meant by quantized light. Explain why observations of blackbody radiation provide evidence for the quantization of light. Write 2 – 3 sentences explaining how quantum mechanics describes light and matter. How does the interference pattern of electrons support the idea that matter can behave as a wave?

Do you see any comparison between issues that aggravated the relationship between Northerners and Southerners in the US before the Civil War, with issues that seemingly are contributing to civil strife in places like Afghanistan and Iraq and Syria today?

Civil War

Included in the causes of the American Civil War was a loss of faith by Southerners in the United States government. They felt outnumbered by the Northern politicians and bankers and consequently decided to remake the United States in a new model, called the Confederate States of America.

Relatively recently Iraq and Afghanistan were/are immersed in turmoil over a number of divisive issues (religious conflict, tribal conflict, corrupt leadership, etc.) that prevents them from consolidating into true nation states. Various factions within these countries continue to battle against each other.

Do you see any comparison between issues that aggravated the relationship between Northerners and Southerners in the US before the Civil War, with issues that seemingly are contributing to civil strife in places like Afghanistan and Iraq and Syria today?

Define harassment. Define intimidation. Define bullying. Explain why you believe HIB has become a major issue in today’s world. Identify the key elements in the New Jersey Anti-Bullying Law. Outline the process required of schools to handle incidents of HIB. What is a Safe School? Discuss why the law was declared unconstitutional. Assignment #8 – Harassment–Intimidation – Bullying (HIB)

Rationale

As teachers, you are now an essential part of the school community. You are the role model for hundreds of children and consciously or not, you will establish your own philosophy on harassment, intimidation, and bullying. Good or bad this philosophy will be emulated by your students in the classroom and for years to come.

Your assignment is to do the following:

1. Define harassment.

2. Define intimidation.

3. Define bullying.

4. Explain why you believe HIB has become a major issue in today’s world.

5. Identify the key elements in the New Jersey Anti-Bullying Law.

6. Outline the process required of schools to handle incidents of HIB.
